OK, third night on my new S9 Auto. (Previously used M-series Auto and Encore Basic.)
Got everything tweaked within reason and slept very well. AHI .2
But ResScan shows 7 centrals in one night! I've seen maybe 2 or 3 centrals in my entire 5 yrs of CPAP. Does ResScan or my S9 score them differently or something?
Centrals? Really??
Centrals? Really??
The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.

Re: Centrals? Really??
My thought as I read this is that the S9 has a differant algorithum and your system is not used to it. I think you would do well to spend some quality time with the new machine during the day.LinkC wrote:OK, third night on my new S9 Auto. (Previously used M-series Auto and Encore Basic.)

May any shills trolls sockpuppets or astroturfers at cpaptalk.com be like chaff before the wind!
Re: Centrals? Really??
My thoughts too. I remember my first night on BiPap i had an ahi of 30 which were almost all centrals. after a week my ahi was down to under 5. My body fought the machine the first few nights.Todzo wrote:My thought as I read this is that the S9 has a differant algorithum and your system is not used to it. Re: Centrals? Really??
Linc- our M series autos do not calculate centrals as such. There is a line on the encore reports that shows as N/R non responsive but if they didn't show up there, they just loaded them in with our obstructives or hypopnias. You may have been getting them all along but they weren't scored on our machines.LinkC wrote:OK, third night on my new S9 Auto. (Previously used M-series Auto and Encore Basic.)

Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.
Re: Centrals? Really??
Nan is right. The non responsive index on the M series reports was not where the centrals that the M series may have sensed got dumped to. Any centrals were dumped into the OA or hyponea category. Given some of the M series reports that I saw where people ended up with definite central issues and on ASV...it seemed like a LOT of hyponeas were flagged and my guess is that is where the bulk of them went to.
Remember some centrals are normal anyway....sleep onset or sleep stage transition centrals which might occur at the beginning of the night and at the end but also might be flagged in the middle of the night if there was some sort of arousal even if we don't remember waking.
Some might be a turn over in bed hold your breath central and some might simply be awake or semi awake breathing getting flagged by mistake.
I have nights with no centrals and the next night I might get 10 to 20 of them flagged through the entire night.
No known reason really but I have noticed that sometimes they seem to be present in greater numbers when I have a really restless night for some reason. One night I was awake in bed for about an hour in the middle of the night fighting the need to go throw up..so I was awake but I had a truckload of centrals get flagged during that time.
As long as I don't see them ever hour in large numbers on a consistent basis I don't worry about them.
