Which model machine do you have? 950 or 960?
The model number is on the bottom of the blower unit.
The 950 model doesn't have the pre heat feature I don't think.

From the user manual for the 60 series machine this is what they say about using the preheat function.....
When using a humidifier, the device can preheat the water tank for up to 30 minutes before starting therapy. In order to activate the preheat mode, the blower must be "off" and a humidifier must be attached. From the device Home screen, highlight "Therapy" and then press and hold down the control wheel for 5 seconds. You will hear a single beep and the device will now be in preheat mode.
The humidifier icon (the little squiggly lines) will illuminate during this time.
It goes on to say that during this 30 minute time you can still use the control wheel to select other options if you want.
If you press and hold the control wheel when "Therapy" is highlighted again the blower will start and therapy begins and preheat function ceases and the regular functions of the humidifier will begin at the preselected temperature or humidity level selected.
It doesn't appear that the heated hose is necessary for the pre heat feature to work.
This preheat function pertains to all 60 series machines and not just the ASV 960.

I had never bothered with this function but I just now tested it out. I was wondering if it worked with Auto On set to "On" without the blower kicking in and it does.

I used to use the preheat function on my Elite; I don't think I ever did on my Autoset.
I might want to if I kept distilled water in the fridge, bur mine is room temperature.
The preheat might make it a bit easier for someone just starting out, too.

For those of us without the pre-heat function, about 30 seconds in the microwave should do it.
I'll check later this evening and see how it works.

I keep my water in small bottles that have the exact capacity of the humidifier chamber so it will be easy to do. Once a week or so, I fill them and use one each day so I don't worry about over or under filling, just dump the left-over in the morning, pour in a whole bottle, and I'm good to go.
