Cpap machine & previously under-control insomnia

Post by marybeans » Mon Oct 07, 2013 12:25 pm

I have high mild / low moderate sleep apnea. Tried full nose mask and just can't tolerate it for multiple reasons. Going to try nose pillow version. Here's my problem: I have very controlled insomnia, meaning I need a dark, very quiet room, fan for white noise, comfortable bed, etc. With those things, which I have, I fall asleep fine and can always get back to sleep when I wake up during the night. In trying to wear the cpap machine, I cannot fall asleep. And once I don't get to sleep fairly easily at the beginning of the night, it's very difficult for me to get to sleep. So I'm looking for advise: Do I try the machine for a certain amount of time each night (how much??) and if I can't get to sleep, then take it off and try to get to sleep without it? (Which is harder to do when you're feeling frustrated.) Drug myself with Ambien? (Which I don't like to do because I haven't had to take it in years and I always feel kind of crappy on it the next day.) Advise appreciated. Thanks.

Either PM Robysue here, or wait for her to see your note - she's the expert on insomnia and OSA!

No information there to go on.
What machine?
What are your pressure settings?
What mask?
What is your humidifier setting?
What do you believe are the reasons you can't fall asleep?
