OT..Poor poor pitiful me

Post by Elle » Sun Sep 01, 2013 3:43 pm

I came to a familiar place to get a few "there there"s. Two weeks ago I had a double mastectomy for an aggressive cancer (invasive ductal carcinoma triple negative grade 3) and I am still unable to walk for more than a few minutes because of fatigue from blood loss and thus low hemoglobin. One of the drains bled so I had to spend a few days back in hospital. I am so frustrated today that it is dragging on.

On a positive note on this pitiful pearl day my cpap has been my trusted friend. I had it in the recovery room (staff both there and on the ward are pretty clueless about it all but they have good RTs available. I had great sleeps both there and at home. I took my old machine to hospital so my nice newer one wouldn't get cooties and it was fine but I was happy to get back to my wisp mask (love it).

Sorry to not contribute something more useful (or less attention seeking) but I am tired and grouchy. I have been reading but too dim to contribute to the threads.

I am 66 and have been 'young at heart' until this year but I intend to get back to denial about aging real soon.

Happy Labour Day to all. xo

Thank you for this reality and attitude check. Stopped me in my tracks from my whining about the heat & humidity and other piddly inconsequential matters. Hate to hear you are going through this challenge and wishing you a speedy recovery. Here's a "there, there" from me along with gentle ((((hugs)))).

Sometimes it is good to whine and get things out in the open. My best wishes for your recovery.

I am glad your cpap worked for you in the hospital, in spite of the clueless ones!

I wish you a speedy recovery. Here is a link we all may find useful, it gave me something to think about.

Hmm I posted a reply and it doesn't show. Thank you for the TED link. I will watch that.

I do feel better getting these pats on the head. I was so strong until I got this news that I thought they had the wrong person.

Hey! I hear you. I was forced to retire early - due to neurological problems. I was *VERY* depressed for quite some time. But I started to train my dog (initially for just obedience, but then to help me as a Service Dog). And I decided to pick up an interest in art - watercolor and pen & ink painting.

So, while I hear you and offer big hugs .. But remember (as you note) we can all embrace our life and life joyously - no matter our age.

I wouldn't consider this a pity party. It is just an update on your condition. You are going through a rough patch. Another (((((hug)))))

Hugs and prayers are being sent your way Elle. I hope the recovery is speedy and that whatever follow-up treatment is prescribed is not too painful.

Thanks again. I see the chemo doc next week and right now I just can't imagine getting there with this energy level. I am eating high iron foods though since iron tablets presented its own problems. I expect it will be very different once the energy returns. I'm glad I came here today.
