High repiratory rate

Post by gsel1953 » Thu Jul 18, 2013 3:13 pm

Just wanted to know if anyone out there has had this problem and can offer help. I have been on sleep therapy for ten years now, same equipment. I realize only those of you using ResScan Software can understand a lot of this. My AHI stays pretty good, average between 2 and 3, rarely 4 or 5. Most of the AHI number is due to Hypopneas. When I do have apneas they are lumped together so close you can't read the all the flags. Anyway, the problem is my respiratory rate is consistently high. Last night it was the highest it has been: 95th percentile- 50; Max 54; Med 46%; Cycled Breaths 92. On other nights, it stays around 95th percentile 38; Max 44. The graph summary shows spikes that go to the limit on creeps over the top of the chart. Last night it was mostly off the chart. When I go for my annual check up my sleep doc is not seem concerned (surprise). This last reading has me wondering what is going on.

Also, I am on SPONT mode, EPAP 10 IPAP 12.4.
Thanks for nay advice/help!

Hi - have you ever used an overnight oximeter at home? That can give you a good idea of whether you have 02 desaturations and how low they are... many of us use them if not all the time, at least once in a while - http://www.pulseoxstore.com/Downloadable-Pulse-Ox.html

and the first one on the page will do the job.

As far as the rest goes, you need to see another doctor more familiar with apnea in general and a pulmonologist should check things out. There could be various things going on that have little if anything to do with OSA or Cpap.

How old is your machine and have you had the accuracy checked on it recently? Most insce. companies will fund new ones after 5 years.

I don't know in your case but I'm finding that in my case when I have high respiratory rates (i often do) it's because my hearts also beating very fast but I also have arrhythmia issues too so I really can't compare.
