Heated Hose Power Cord Poll
Just wondering what everyone does with their heated hose cord?
My heated hose has no ON/OFF switch, so I plug it in at night and then unplug it in the morning. After having had it drop off the back of the nightstand a few times, I looked for other options and found that tying it to the power cord of the BiPAP-auto worked well for me. Now it stays in place ready for connection the next night.
Regards,
Bill

24/7
I wasn't going to admit it. but i can see somebody else does 24/7. I feel better about this.
I don't see the down side, except maybe the extra 30¢/yr to operate, and maybe the plastic hose will deteriorate prematurely and crumble into little pieces on the floor. and maybe the warmth will encourage mold and mildew growth inside the hose, and end up in my lungs.
other than that, is there an issue?

I leave mine on (on the power strip) for about an hour after I get up - because I think the warmth dries it, and discourages the development of mold. But I disconnect if from the humidifier when drying it like that.

I have mine plugged into the wall outlet which I can turn on and off with the wall switch by the door. I unplug the tiny thingy on the hose, leaving the big thingy plugged into the wall socket. (don't you just love the technical terminology?) I remove the HH and take it, hose and mask to the kitchen with me switching off everything left behind on the way out the door. I guess I really never gave it it a thought as to there may be other ways of doing this. Or if I was doing anything right or wrong!

My hose is on order. I don't have any idea what to expect for delivery time. I had not thought about the cord. Thanks for this thread... I'm learning.

I too have everything on a powerstrip, and my original plan was to shut everything off and back on daily, as needed. Wulfman (Den) raised the issue of draining the motherboard battery, which makes me feel better about leaving it on. According to my KILL-A-WATT meter, with the powerstrip "ON", the Remstar "OFF", and the heated hose "ON", they collectively consume a tiny amount of power, roughly a watt or two, just a trickle. Pretty close to nothing.Snoozin' Bluezzz wrote:This way the entire thing gets shut down which, to me, is a good thing.

I go with the power strip/ surge suppressor for everything.
I figure the hose is going to heat up a lot more without air blasting through it, and whereas it is not going to burst into flames, I could see the plastic in it deteriorating with what is often used as an "accelerated life test" for plastics. putting them at a higher temp for a period of time.
I thought most motherboards use a long-life NON-rechargeable battery. But I could easily be mistaken.
I do unplug everthing from the humidifier tank every morning to avoid moisture from the still warm water drifting back into the unit or making the inside of the cooling hose damp.
My latest dilema is my pulse ox unit DOES have a rechargeable battery. So if I plug it into the bar, it doesn't top off during the day, and if I plug it directly into the wall, it doesn't get a surge suppressor. I may have to pick up an extra single outlet surge suppressor for it.

Snork1, you do want to keep the N-395 plugged in. Small lead-acid batteries like it has aren't real forgiving if they become discharged. You'll get longer life from the battery by leaving the unit plugged in.snork1 wrote:My latest dilema is my pulse ox unit DOES have a rechargeable battery. Yeah but I have read where those trickles add up. I am trying to wean myself off of 24 hour powered or standby devices (not with very much luck).
Let's see:
Computer - Standby
Phone - Powered or standby (?)
TV1 - Standby
TV2 - Standby
DVD/VCR - Standby
Satellite Receiver 1 - Standby
Satellite Receiver 2 - Standby
Stereo 1 - Standby
Stereo 2 - Standby
CD Player - Powered
Microwave - Standby
Oven - Standby
Coffee Maker - Standby
WiFi Router - Powered
Cable Modem - Powered
Frig - Yeah, I turn it off.
Clock Radio - Standby
CPAP - Standby
I don't know if I am techno-modern or stupid.
SB
BTW - I live alone, imagine if there were two people!

Just put 'em all on surge protector power strips and only power 'em up when you need to use 'em. ( . . . and he walks off chuckling merrily . . .)Snoozin' Bluezzz wrote:Yeah but I have read where those trickles add up. I am trying to wean myself off of 24 hour powered or standby devices . . .
This works quite especially good with your computer, just so long as you have time to waste while it shuts down and boots up, and also don't mind the occasional hard drive crash because you inadvertently shut down power.

Yeah, I was contemplating that after I wrote them all down. I'm a lazy cuss though. Lazy and mildly concerned about appearances. I need to hide the strips but make them easily accessible. Also, there are those devices - VCR/DVD recorder particularly, that need to keep time and don't have battery.
Well, I may do something about it but, then again, I may not as (as he wanders off, chuckling merrily...)

Snoozin' Bluezzz,
Those sat receivers are like my sat and cable boxes, they only turn off the A/V outputs. They are still powering the receiver and LNB. put your hand on top of one and feel the power.
