Mask parts

Post by sharonokc » Sun Jan 16, 2005 12:40 pm

If there is a small detatchable part on a cpap mask, it seems I will lost or misplace it. It has been everything from forehead pads to differing port covers to that half moon whatever.

On my brand new mirage full face mask I have managed to displace and not find a port cover, I had not even realized was there until it went missing. I cannot find it. It looks like a clear bolt.

Unluckily I also came down with a bad upper respitory infection, totally blocking my nostrils and demanding the use of a full face mask. When I called my health provider I got oh isn't that too bad, come in when you are welll and we will figure out what part you need. (Ihaven't even gotten the eob from the insurance yet, I think they should be able to determine what mask I have rather easily). I was hoping for, I will bring that right out or I will get that in the mail. They would have done this several years ago.

I have gotten off onto a rant. I am going to see if I can find several port covers on line now that I can stay awake more than half an hour. Why can't the parts be brightly colored to make them easier to find? [/url]

Perhaps you could temporarily plug the open port by stuffing some silicone ear plug material down in it. Silicone ear plugs (malleable) are available at WalMart. Seems wasteful to buy a whole box of those silicone ear plugs to use just a tiny bit of it, but might make a really good plug that wouldn't blow out....maybe....yet still be easy to remove when you do get a "real" plug from the DME.

Its funny, I had actually alteady done this. I had some colored silicon ear putty. It filled the hole. I have ordered some port caps. After checking 9 to 10 sellers it was surprising who did and did not carry the port caps.

Mask parts should come in easy to pay prices.

With sleep apnea becoming more known all the time, I bet that we'll see more choices. Give it a few years, and maybe we'll be able to pick the colours of various parts, for a 'custom' machine

So many things these days come in translucent blue, red, yellow, etc plastic, why not masks, hoses, replacement parts, interchangable covers for the machines? Maybe it would improve compliance among younger users

If Apple Computers made a cpap, you just know it would be user-friendly. They could call it the iPap, or the PapPod

Definitely! Every time I take it apart to wash it, I'm afraid I'm going to dump something very small and very expensive down the drain.

LOL, NapsWithRabbits!! - "They could call it the iPap, or the PapPod" Funny.

raneyday, I never take my masks apart to wash them. I just think the more you take 'em apart, the more chance there is that the parts won't fit back together quite as tightly as they did straight from the manufacturer. More wear and tear on the parts, imho. I think just gently wiping face oils off the surface of the cushion with a soft cloth or sponge and mild soap/water is sufficient. Any rinsing or sloshing of the entire mask during more extensive cleaning can be done with the mask intact, not taken apart. I keep my masks clean, but I think more about (alert: gonna coin a new word here!) "leakliness" than cleanliness.

I'm with rested gal, the only cleaning the mask should need (according the technician at the sleep center) is the oils left behind from wear. Use an antibacterial soap, avoid the wipes as they may contain alcohol which dries the cushions on the mask and leads to leaks, and leave it air dry.
