Help with humidifier

Post by Deenie-deen » Fri Apr 12, 2013 7:17 pm

Hello,
I noticed that barely any of the water is being used in my reservoir and I am waking up dry. The room temp is 62 degrees and my temp on the machine is set to 67 degrees. What do I change it to to get more moisture?

Thanks,
Deenie-deen

I don't know what the American s9 humidifier goes up to, but I'm assuming it can be raised to about 86 Fahrenheit? (Ours goes up to 30 degrees Celsius). Have you tried increasing the temperature?

(please correct me if I'm wrong)

You have the temperature set quite low. It can be raised much higher. Definitely bring it up.

Thank you,
I am raising the temp right now and gonna give it a whirl. Will let you know how I do.
I am loving my machine and I get a good nights sleep now. I am just over a month with the machine
and very glad I got it. I believe I was lucky and caught my apnea very early on maybe had One year or two.
With the machine and all the help I have received from this forum I am doing great.

Thank you again,
Deenie-deen

Here's the deal with what the S9 is "supposed" to do with the Climateline set to automatic (it is if the only choice you have is temperature). It's "supposed" to deliver 80% humidity at any of the temperature settings...this is what a Resmed tech confirmed to me.
BUT...I have found out from my own personal use that if I drop that temperature down to the low 70s (did that last summer when it was hot in the bedroom) that I was sure a whole lot dryer in my nose than when I was using around 80 degrees.
It sure felt like I was getting a lot less moisture and it didn't seem to use as much water from the tank (but that varies with room humidity so not the best gauge).

So technically it should have been delivering the same amount of humidity but it sure didn't feel like it.
So I still tell people to try a little more temperature as long as it isn't uncomfortably warm to them.
It sure won't hurt to try.

As I offered on another post, there are four or five factors in play with how much water is consumed in the humidifier:
1) Room temp
2) How far - if at all - your bedroom window is open
3) What the nighttime temps are where you sleep
4) How humid or dry your climate is this time of year.

I'm certain that in May and then through September I won't need the humidifier. For the most part this time of year I need it for my lips and throat as I'm a singer and instrumentalist.

God bless.

Deenie-deen,
I'm pretty sure you can set the humidity separate of the temperature of the climate line on the S9 AutoSet. You might have to get into the clinical settings to give the control to the patient for you to have easy access to this.
Good luck!
