Respironics System One Humidifier Problem...

Post by pamr61 » Mon Feb 18, 2013 11:07 am

Good morning! I am newly registered with your forum, though I have checked in to read posts from time to time. I am a fairly new CPAP user ( starting my 3rd month), and have an issue with my humidifier.
Last night after taking the tank out to clean and refill, when I put the tank back in, the lid no longer snaps closed completely, which means the air is leaking out from the tank door when turned on. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas about what is wrong? I am hoping it is a simple fix and doesn't involve taking it in for servicing already.
Thanks!

I believe that is indeed a simple fix. In the user manual it describes how to properly seat the top. At the moment I am at work and can't quickly find a link to that manual, but if you can find the manual I am sure you'll see the area I speak of. If you can't find it I'll try to follow up tonight...

Assuming that you have put the plastic tank together properly....did you remove the seal in the very back of the main part of the unit where the 2 openings have to fit? Normally the little ring or coupling that is attached to the main part of the unit doesn't get removed.

Is it a little bit off with closing the lid? If so just pull the tank out and push it back in to see if it will go back a little further. I have done this myself...won't quite latch so I just pull the tank and and reinsert with a little more effort.

It only goes in one way...won't even come close to sealing if you have it backwards.

Thank you..... I think I know where in the manual you are talking about khauser.... it was late last night when I was having the problem and I looked at the manual briefly, and saw there is a part about how to reattach the lid. I will explore that more this afternoon when I get home from work. But yes, pugsy...I was thinking the same thing, that maybe I had it in wrong, so took it back out and reinserted it several times, but just could not get the lid to snap down and close tight. I assume something to do with the door itself must be loose.

Try pushing a little harder.
Make sure the plastic tank lid is firmly seated and sealed.
Also...take the tank out and look into the back and left...make sure the little connector where the air goes into the tank hasn't had something come loose.

Is your machine a 60 series with the heated hose humidifier? I haven't seen one of those to check out any problematic areas. The lid is a bit different on this model.

I am sure it is something simple. I don't see how you could have damaged things.
When all else fails...take the tank apart and put it back together again making sure it matches perfectly. Then try again.
Do look inside though. While normal removal of the plastic tank shouldn't have moved any of those seals in the back...it isn't impossible I suppose.

OK...went home at lunch and took another look at it, took the tank out and apart, and replaced the lid again, checked inside, popped it in and now it works! I guess I was just extra tired when messing with it last night, and I just needed a fresh try at it. Thanks for your help!
