Air Leaving the Vent - Swift FX Mask

Post by pikov22 » Sun Feb 17, 2013 1:06 pm

Should the air leaving the vent in a Swift FX mask have the same pressure while you're inhaling and exhaling?

Why? What are you seeing? I would think that it would be higher when exhaling, but I've never noticed a difference. The only time I pay attention to the venting is to verify that it's on, or if it's blowing on me *smile*.

I'm feeling the same pressure all the time. I thought it would be lower when inhaling and higher when exhaling too.

It may just be that the pressure being put out by the cpap is enough more than one's exhalation pressure that you just don't feel the difference.

Why is everyone putting in the text from the previous post? Why don't you just answer the question, or make a comment. It's so totally redundant.

I agree with this. CPAPhope, many of us (I am in this group) only look at the latest messages on a thread. I read and respond to enough that I can't always keep track of what's going on in each.

That said, I wouldn't want every detail quoted .... mostly the specific item(s) that are being responded too.

pikov, I think the pressure at the exhaust *is* supposed to be the same as long as we're talking about CPAP or APAP with no breath relief.

As I understand it, the vent is meant to keep from re-breathing CO2, so as you exhaust the CO2 is met with the incomming air pressure and gets vented away. Also, the amount of pressure exerted by your lungs in a typical exhalation is much less than the minimum CPAP pressure, so it isn't going to feel like much is added.

I *have* noted that I can feel the temperature and humidity difference from the vented air depending on whether I am inhaling or exhaling.

It makes it easier since many threads end up with multiple questions. If each person quotes what they are responding it, it's easier to follow...

Just my 2 cents on it...

I tried the mask I had used at the sleep lab and it wasn't any different. And I definitely feel warmer air when I exhale.

Thanks.
