Chin straps - what do you use?

I think I'm ready to order all my "stuff" except for the chin strap. In looking at the Delux Chin Strap, I'm afraid the wide width will bother my throat (I don't even like turtleneck tops or sweaters against my throat.) Perhaps I could fold it over to make it more narrow? I think that would get it away from my ears, too. Has anyone ever done this?

My other choice is the ResMed Sullivan type, with the cup for the chin. Any comments would be helpful.

Oh, and I've also wondered about just using stretchy head bands-- anyone out there who has done that?

I use the "Premium Chin Strap" from Respironics, see https://www.cpap.com/productpage/premiu ... hleak.html

I had the deluxe previously and it would frequently slip off of my chin (not a big chin) and choke me. I think it should be taken off the market in my opinion.

But the premium has a cup stitched into it's "neoprene like" material that prevents if from slipping off. It just works better.

If you have to have a chinstrap, try to get that one in my opinion.

I have used lightweight stretchy headbands as chinstraps.
They work quite well but they tend to slip off my head during the night.
The trick is getting the angle right which isn't easy. I'm going to start trying other chin straps. My DME just gave me a new one to try that's made out of neoprene that looks promising. Sorry but I don't have it with me at the moment and so I don't remember the name. But it cups the chin and has two straps--one that goes on top of your head and one at the back of your head.

Have you looked at the Tiara chinstraps? I think its the one Mary was talking about.
It works well for me.

yes that's what my new chinstrap is. Tiara topaz. I am going to try it for the first time tonite.

Linda, I used a single strap, cloth cup chin strap for almost two years, but it was a constant hassle keeping it positioned correctly.

I considered other types, but anything with neoprene or multiple straps is either uncomfortably warm and/or too confining considering it "competes" with your headgear straps.

Ultimately, I resorted to taping which took quite a bit of getting used to, but completely stopped the air leaks through my mouth. My sleep statistics improved dramatically, and I feel more rested than ever.

I can thank Rested Gal for giving me the courage to try taping, and am ever so grateful.

OK I tried the Tiara topaz chin strap night before last and it gave me a really bad rash where it comes in contact with my face. I guess I'm allergic to neoprene. I had a similar problem with a neoprene knee sleeve many years ago that I had forgotten about. So last night I tried my two homemade headband chinstrap fix but I had to remove it because the irritation from the Tiara was still there. So last night was spent with too many mouth leaks (more than 0.5L/hr). So I'm back to square 1 with the chinstraps. Will go back to mouth taping tonight in desperation (I can only do that a few days until my lips starting chapping and cracking). And I guess my next strategy will be to make my own version of the Tiara chin strap using some stretchy non allergic material. Any other suggestions from any of you?

I use the Respironics premium chin strap. I think it works better than the tiara ones and has a no smell rather than the strong smell of the tiara ones. And it works much better too.

I have to stay away from anything neoprene.
