Has anyone tried a *wifi SD card* with their ResMed?

Post by Darth Vader Face » Mon Dec 17, 2012 12:05 pm

I haven't used one of these devices before, a Wi-Fi enabled SD card...
http://www.amazon.com/Eye-Fi-Connect-Wi ... B0099HKNE8

...they market them for cameras. But I'm wondering if anyone else has tried using them in order to pull the data from a resmed onto their PC over Wi-Fi?

No idea; but it sounds tantalizing!

I think a few have tried the wifi thing but not able to do it because the wifi programs are all geared for photo image files and not data text files.

I think I looked into this before and some said it would not work. I have to connect 2 other sleep related devices to my computer so taking this SD card out is no biggie.

But if you forget to put it back in before you go to bed, you don't get the detailed info. On the PR One machines, you will still get the detailed info if you forget to put your card back in. I found that out through my own doings

Even if it works it does not worth to spend the extra money.
I use 1 to 2 GB regular SD cards.
I use 5 of them b/c my S9 machine likes to report on its screen:

INVALID CARD DATA,
ERASE CARD?

YES...............NO

So I click on NO (need to be yellow colored)

Next, I stick other cards untill the machine accepts one.

The machine never said it on Resmed made cards.

But often when I stick the INVALID card in the Laptop and use it there, the machine accepts it later.

Okay. I'm willing to spend the money so I'm not constantly plugging and unplugging cards. Let me send a quick email to the manufacturer to see if they have any insight about the file transfer process before I move forward.

Using the search function quickly turns up this..viewtopic.php?f=1&t=78904&p=717850&hilit=eyefi#p717497.

The short answer is that it won't work.

Ah. I did a search before posting, but I didn't have the magic keyword. I've send a message to Transcend to see if they card is equally restrictive or if it is more open than the EyeFi.

I'm hoping that this manufacturer's product is a little more cooperative. I've send them an email asking for more information.

bearing in mind as far as the manufacturer is concerned you are removing your card and taking it to the doctors or DMEs to be read. We are not their customers and in their eyes should not be looking at our own data.

But good luck you never know.

Maybe a wireless card reader might work. Don't know if it will so buyer beware.

You will still need to eject the card.

When this was investigated by some other users before, they couldn't get the CPAP data files off the card via wifi. It only lets you see picture files, not the raw data on the card.

Even if it did work right and you could see all the data, I'd bet ResScan wouldn't see the data, but SleepyHead might.

There was also other manufacturers of wifi SD cards. I did a little looking, but I had my doubts they'd work "right."

In particular, they look to me like you'd have to disconnect your normal internet connection in order to connect to the wifi card. It's not clear to me that the wifi SD card would connect to, for instance, your home wifi router, and then let your PC access the car through the network without reconfiguring the PC's network connection each time.

Unfortunately, "wifi" isn't a mature enough technology that "oddball" things like this are "plug and play. "

Also, even if the card is "done right", not all devices provide power to the SD card when they're not in use. You might find that the S9 doesn't power the card when the machine isn't blowing.

He's talking about contacting the manufacturer of the card, not the CPAP machine.

Transcend responded quickly! But it looks like this idea is a no-go:
You can connect this card directly to any device that has an internet browser. However, even while using it in this alternate method, you can only transfer videos and photos. Other file types will not be detected. You can read through the user guide attached for this product to learn how to connect through a browser.

Eye-Fi also responded:
Thank you for contacting Eye-Fi Customer Care.

Eye-Fi cards look for photos and videos to be saved in a way that's compliant with the DCF standard, as described here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design_rul ... ile_system

Typically they're saved to the card's DCIM folder as 8-character filenames like IMG_1001.JPG. If you save them onto the Eye-Fi card using that standard, the card should try to upload them wirelessly. Our cards are really only designed to work in your camera, so this is not officially supported, but you could certainly give it a try.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have questions or would like further assistance.

Kind regards,
Jason

Looks like this idea gets buried a second time. Thanks to all who replied.

The Toshiba Flashair card uses a different technology. From the reading I have done in server mode it should work fine.

I think it might be possible, but you might have to disconnect your PC from its normal internet connection, and then connect to the SD card as your internet host, grab your data, and then disconnect and reconnect to your regular internet connection.

It's not really clear to me that the server mode will let you see non-picture files.

You'd still have the question whether the CPAP machine provides power to the card all the time, or only when it wants to write data to it.

There's also the question of what having a wifi transmitter inside your CPAP machine is going to do to the electronics of the machine.

If someone buys one, experiment and let us know how it works.
