Pros and Cons of Swift LT Nasal Mask?

Post by marydye » Tue Jul 03, 2012 2:48 pm

Please tell me your experience with Pros and cons of Swift LT Nasal Mask. Just got fitted with one today after trying several full face masks. Lots of issues with the full face masks with pressure on nose bridge and pressure on lower lip along with lots of leakage with all the masks we have tried. Thanks.

Have you tried a plain nasal mask like my with a chinstrap? It's more robust to hold the air hose than pillows masks.

I like the ResMed's Swift FX nasal pillows. The bridge of my very damaged nose won't tolerate any face masks, so nasal pillows are a Godsend to me. They are very light weight, adjustable, comfortable and effective. It takes a week or two to get used to the fit and reducing the leaks; however it is totally worth it. Lansinol lubricate helps seal them against leakage and makes them more comfortable during the night. Just search this site for Swift FX - there's a multitude of loyal Swift FX users here.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

The thing I like best about the Swift LT is the ability to adjust the angle of the pillows with respect to my nose.

I really haven't had any difficulties with the LT. Earl

[edit] I use the hose attached to the headgear. I do like that feature.

Hi,

Yes, that is the best feature. The reason I like the Swift LT is that it is the only mask that I have been able to use long term. It works especially good at very high pressure levels. I have to get full face masks so tight that it leaves red marks all day long. I tried a nasal mask, and I get welts along the side of my nose after a few days. The LT doesn't leave any marks. The LT is also great for BiPAP users since it doesn't bounce up and down like full face masks. The cons are that it is a little noisy, and the pillows don't seem to last all that long.

I use both Swift LT and Swift FX. The LT is a little firmer and the pillows are easier to conform to the user's nares. Because the LT is a bit firmer, you can loosen it a little more than the FX, which I find needs snugging down a bit more to hold it in place. Both of these masks are very comfortable to side/stomach sleep with.

Cheers,
xena

I went through about a dozen nasal pillow masks and my search ended when the Swift LT first came out. Although it does have a 360 degree swivel hose connect, I do wish it had a ball swivel instead. Also, I do use Bret's PapCap chinstrap as a foundation for my swift and maintain pretty much 100% leak-free all night every night and I toss n turn alot during my sleep.

Hmmm. that's a lot of affirmations for the Swift LX pillows. Thanks members for the input. I think I'll check them out. By the way, what does "they don't last very long" mean? A few weeks, months?

Depends on who you ask. I used the Swift LT from day one of my therapy until the Swift FX was release (18 months or so) and I got months of use out of my Swift LT nasal pillows and I continue to get months of use out of my Swift FX nasal pillows.
Other people say they do good to get 2 weeks of life.
I do rotate the pillows though...wash once a week...use an "older" pillow while that freshly washing pillow sits and air dries and rest for a week and then start all over again. I easily get 3 months of use out of each and most of the time the pillows get tossed from being ugly and not from leaking.

I've been using the same Swift LT since I got it 4 years ago when it first came out and by the way it is wearing, I don't see why it won't last another 10 years.

Pros:
I can get a good seal easily
Head gear is pretty comfy
Can adjust angle of pillows
Can sleep on my side/stomach with minimal leaks

Cons:
would like a better swivel for the hose

I tried the LT, then the Mirage FX nasal, then the Swift FX, then went back to the LT.

I started out on the Swift LT then after a week or so even though it wasn't giving me problems I decided that I should try some other masks to see if i could find something better, I didn't like the nasal mask, hurt my nose and couldn't get a good seal. The Swift FX was ok, but had leak issues with it as well. Went back to the LT and have been happy since. I wish the LT had the same hose connection as the FX, then it would be dang near perfect for me.

I have been using the same pillow for 2+ months. I wash it once a week and wipe it down with a wet wipe every other day or so.
