funny odor

Post by Issac » Thu Jun 28, 2012 7:35 am

my water ran out two nights ago and I has the humidity on high. I haven't been able to use my Aloha too well because of a bad cold so I switched back to Hybrid where I keep the humidity much higher than Aloha, very high in fact. Anyway, forgot to max to water line and ran out and now the air smells funny. Sort of burnt, but not burnt....hard to explain. It's slight, but bothered me all night. I have the phillips respironics bi-pap (not the brand new one). What do I do?

Take out your humidifier tank and give it a wash...perhaps a soak in 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar. When you put it back in let it run for a time to dispell the smell. I have run out of water before but never have had an odor or anything.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

The smell may also be in your tubing, so I'd give that a good wash and rinse in a vinegar solution which should eliminate the smell.

Cheers,

Wash the tank, the hose and the mask really well. Then refill tank and let the machine run for a couple of hours to dry out the hose and stuff.
I have done the same thing. Stinks something awful. The odor was what woke me up.
It will fade pretty quickly though.

Just a good wash, and vinegar/water rinse (or even a soak)
I had the same experience, and it all washed away.

My humidifier ran out of water overnight just a few nights ago and the smell invaded my dreams before waking me. It was a sickly sweet odor and in my dream it was the smell of decomposing roadkill.

Fortunately, though, a thorough washing of the tank eliminated the odor.

Yet another good reason to have a spare tank, tube, and mask.
