nasal strip's

Post by Kenneth P. » Thu Jun 07, 2012 5:34 pm

Wondering how many people use nasal strip's with cpap..Went to see my ENT for my ear..Had Sinus surgery in 2002 for blockage of my nasal passage's.Since I use a nasal mask.I ask'd him what I could do to breath better at night..He said to try nasal strip's plus what I'm using now "salt saline"..Haven't had any lock with Flonase, etc.

I use them with pillows. With a nasal mask, you'd have to probably see if they interfere with the mask.

Just wondering..Stop'd on the way home from the Docter&pick'd up a pack.Worth a try..I like the nasal mask. But, my big problem is I have a hard time breathing till ramp get to 100%..I can turn the temp up if i'm really stuffed up...So we will try.

I use them with nasal pillows, plus a chinstrap. The strips have been a godsend for me. I'd love to just walk around in public with one adhered to my nose. The membranes are totally lifted up and away from my nasal airway. I never use nasal spray anymore.

The sole purpose of ramp is for people who can't tolerate their prescribed pressure immediately and need a gradual building up to that pressure. If you feel like you can't breathe on ramp, you either don't need ramp at all, or you need it to ramp up from a higher place. What is your prescribed pressure and at what pressure does ramp start?

I use them, and I think they help. Nasonex is helping now, too.

And disable the ramp, it sounds like you don't need it.

Update.,.Tried last night..Did make a dig difference.I did notice my AHI was 6 that is a little higher than normal..But, that's mild anyway...I have to use ramp..I can't stand starting out at full pressure.Right now I don't sleep that great at night.Been out of work for 4 week's now..Had cervical surgery&having to wear a neck brace at night.Plus, not wearing myself out during the day to ba able to sleep really good at night. But, it did help&that all that matter's.

Like Vise Grips, quality on the nasal strips varies greatly with brand.
Most of the 'off' brands are not worth a bucket of guano; just saying.

You are contradicting yourself. In the earlier post you said you had trouble breathing during ramp until pressure got to 100%.

Which is it?

Did cut ramp off last night..Did ok with it..I started out with nasal strip's& early this morning removed them &went back to bad..I can tell a difference in air restriction even at 100%flow.Much better with the strip's.I do have some restriction in my nose.It want's to close up..That's why the Doc recommend'd the strip's.Now,if they would comeout with some for daytime use..lol..Doc.said there no reason for surgery&really don't want to go through that again..

I was doing nasal irrigation with NeilMed nightly and it wasn't helping with my nostrils closing up. My ENT had me try an antihistamine spray called Astelin, which I tried for a month but it didn't help. What finally worked for me was Nasonex spray at bedtime. Normally Nasonex is prescribed as a morning dose but if you use it at bedtime you get maximum benefit when you need it. Flonase and Nasilide are similar drugs. All require around a week of usage before you notice improvement.

Before Nasonex I had to use my full face mask 2-3 times a week because I just couldn't breathe well enough through my nose to use the nasal mask and keep my mouth closed.

I also take a Zyrtec most days in the morning. I still do nasal irrigation every 2 or 3 days to keep things clean.

Good luck.

Some sprays may not work well for a particular person in isolation, but combined with another, they do. For example, I use Nasonex + Astepro together and that works better than either alone. I use it both morning and night.
