Bug in my humidifier
Bug in my humidifier
Found a tiny gnat-like insect in my humidifier tank when I went to clean it out this morning. There is no way it could have gotten in last night while I was sleeping. Must have either been in there when I filled last night or it flew in while I carried it from my bed to the sink. It was dead but floating on top of the little bit of water I had left. The thought of possibly sucking it up over night and into my nose makes me feel a little uncomfortable. Will double check in the future.
Re: Bug in my humidifier
Somebody should bring up those good bug post that I've read every now and then.

Re: Bug in my humidifier
What's that bug doing in my humidifier? ... I believe it's the backstroke.
I'ld be amazed if most of us don't find some bugs from time to time. There's just a lot of them .. and lots of ways to get into the unit. Best not to panic. Remember, we've been living with bugs and other gems for a long, long time. Mostly they won't hurt us .. in fact, we tend to be more of a threat to them (hence your past tense bug) than they are to us.

Re: Bug in my humidifier
I wish it was a little gnat. About two weeks ago I went to top off my humidifier before attaching the hose and happen to notice a BIG OLE FLY floating in mine. At least it was not a roach. I was an hour late getting to bed after scrubbing and scrubbing and scrubbing my chamber. Had nightmares about bugs crawling out the hose all night. YUK! I now have a elbow with the end filled with a little ball of fiberfill plugging up the end that I put on it when I disconnect the hose.

Sorry to hear about your insect experience. Yes there is some great cpap bug stories here if you search for them.
I always blow into the end of my hose before connecting it to the humidifier, so any creepy crawlies would fly out the other side, "just to be safe"..

I would bet that becuase we use cpap we actually swallow fewer bugs than most people when they sleep.
People who do not use cpap swallow bugs when they sleep. Just google it! It's on Google, so it must be true.

I think Pugsy once posted that this link is the infamous bug/insect post that everyone talks about. If you search there are others like it, but this one is the best and worth the read if you have the time (don't read if you are easily grossed out by insects).

Re: Bug in my humidifier
I keep my hose attached to my machine at all times. To keep the bug problem away from my humidifier I made a tube to fit over the end of the hose with a double thickness of mesh that I had from an old laundry bag. Now my hose can dry out as the mesh has tiny holes in it and no bugs can get into my machine.. A friend of mine came home from holidays to find a conga line of ants marching across the top of her pillows...freaked me out so much I went home and made my "sock" for the end of my hose....ahhhhhh.

Personally, I rather like bugs and in fact, raise flightless roaches to feed to my tarantulas and bearded dragon. I do, however, draw the line at snakes even though I am a reptile person. My hubby WAS in the habit of leaving the sliding door open when he lets the dogs out at 3 in the morning so he can utilize the facilities at the same time. One morning, DH had already left to go play golf and I hear the dogs barking like crazy in my bedroom. I went stomping in there to shut them up and what to my wondering eyes should appear but a beautiful night snake stretched out in the sun on the rug in front of the sliding door. I managed to catch it and get it back outside but I wasn't a very happy camper. I would rather have bugs in my humidifier!
