Frustrated

Post by cappy » Mon Apr 23, 2012 6:11 pm

Hello all...I am new to CPAPtalk. Six years ago, I was diagnosed with severe OSA. I tried CPAP, BiPAP, a ridiculous amount of masks and couldn't get used to it. I am now 51, six years older, and hopefully six years wiser. I know the harm of untreated OSA and I need to do something about it...again.

I had another sleep study done last week and had 143 episodes in 3 hours. They put me on CPAP the same night. Although I feel like I didn't sleep a wink they said I did. I get my machine on Wednesday.

It was a total fiasco today trying to get through the DME's head that I will not settle for an entry-level CPAP. I took the advice of several posters and fought for what I think will be a decent machine, the PR System One REMstar Auto CPAP Machine with A-Flex. My insurance pays 100% of my DME needs so cost is not an issue. I want the best machine I can get. Since I do a lot of sailing, a machine with a 12v power supply is key and this machine has that. I don't have to buy a separate battery backup, just plug it into the 12v power on my boat.

Any comments on this machine will be welcomed. I'm tired

The saga continued today. I am all over the DME to provide the right machine. I had a great conversation with the referral coordinator at my doctor's office. Her husband has been on CPAP for 17 years. She said I should get a machine with a heated humidifier with heated tube. The Resmed machine DS550 wasn't heated. The DS650 is, but my DME can't errrrrrrr...won't order it. I will be getting the S9 Autoset tomorrow. Based on what I have read on this board, it is not a brick!

There are separate heated tubes that can be ordered... for a price. Pugsy's got one, as do some other folks.

Chris,

This is one of the reasons that I have purchased my own machines and equipment. I don't want anyone else to tell me what I can and cannot have, and I don't want someone else to be in charge of my quality of sleep. It is too important to me to worry about how much it costs.

Hi Cappy.

Welcome to the forum. As you begin to collect your xpap equipment, may I suggest as time allows to sit back and read. You'll learn so much! What works and doesn't work. If it wasn't for this forum, I would still be stuck with a useless cpap and a mask that didn't like me. ALOT of folks are here to help. *Offers cold glass of milk and freshly baked peanut butter cookies*
