I noticed that I feel like poo if I have more than a few events a night. When I have a bad day I check my efficacy data and usually find out that I had 10 or more events or that the leak rate was high. When the mask stays on and I don't have any events I feel much better. I know that I have undetected events anytime I have leaks. The current mask works good, for the most part but leaks bad when I roll onto it. The leak is on the bottom so it doesn't wake me up.
Why doesn't the Cpap machine have an alarm option when the leak is bad?
Do you notice a difference when you have multiple events

That many events would put your AHI over the magic 5.0 I would think, so. Mine hasn't reached 1.0 (usually around 0.3) since Night 1 on CPAP, so I can't help you there.

I also can tell when my nightly CPAP treatment of my plain OSA was wasted. I tell it by the sleeplessness and crappy mood that I find myself from the next morning till noon.
In my case it is also b/c of mask leaks and AHIs above 12.

Re: Do you notice a difference when you have multiple events
When I fall asleep without my bipap, and miss a few hours with it I sure notice the difference! If I sleep all nite w/o it (which is exceedingly rare) I am absolutely no good. I can't go to work. I'm nonfunctional.
