Oh, how things can become so complicated.
I visit a chiropractor about every 5 - 6 weeks for neck and shoulder (stress) aches and muscle tension due to sleep deprivation, tired muscles and a head on collision 8 years ago. I schedule a full body massage once a month. And I exercise (Zumba and our private family gym) regularly. I have always taken care of my body and have tried to manage my minor aches and pains without the use of meds.
But now enter the CPAP machine and the MASK into my life! And in comes a whole new set of variables.
My pillow, any pillow.... the pillow! How on earth can I get this contraption on my face to cooperate with my favorite "neck and shoulder" pillow? Has anyone found a pillow that would meet my needs of good neck and shoulder support with the benefit of accommodating the mask?
And does insurance companies usually cover these "other" needs in the sleep therapy process?
Thanks again! This forum and the people who contribute are truly helping me manage all these new changes in my life!

Re: Pillow Talk
My insurance does not cover 'comfort' items.
I suppose if comfort is necessary for sleep, which in turn is medically necessary, maybe they should.
But they don't want to.
Due to your having medically documented conditions,
you might be able to get your doctor to write a 'letter of medical necessity'.
Not saying it will work--but worth a shot.
Good luck and happy sleep.

I have herniated discs C4 through C7 due to a freak accident several decades ago so I have trouble finding pillows that really help. This one is wonderful - because of the shape of the thing with the two wings for side sleeping and the center part with the neck support for back sleeping, I just roll over whenever I want to and the pillow stays put and still supports my neck and shoulders.
It's pricey but the cost is equivalent to a regular tempurpedic foam pillow, and mine has lasted for 18 months so far with no sign of deterioration.
