Can CPAP help astigmatism?

I went to the optometrist yesterday and was informed that my level of astigmatism was extremely low. It was so low that I no longer have to wear special contacts made for people with astigmatism. I was informed that it was basically non-existent. He said its so low that it doesn't effect my sight in any way, although its still barely detectable. Anybody else had similar results? The only other way I can think of that caused my astigmatism to go away is that I went to a different optometrist, so there might be a difference of opinion at play. I know there is a relation between sleep apnea and eye conditions, but a search result turned up next to nothing on the subject.

I've had it for at least 40 years, been on the hose for almost 2 years, there's no change in my astigmatism. I'm not a doctor, but I haven't seen any change.

I was noticing it shortly before I went back on CPAP, and I think it's not been as bad lately. I was attributing it more to the drop in my blood pressure that's also occurred (partly due to CPAP, partly due to diet and exercise, partly due to medication).

No connection in my case.
My astigmatism was slight, though I've been extremely myopic (around to 20\400) most of my life.
Several years ago I had RK correction--they under-corrected the right eye,
and when they did the enhancement, they gave me severe astigmatism in that eye.
I wound up switching eye dominance to my left,
-------------but to get rid of Coke-bottle glasses--it was worth it.

I think astigmatism can improve with age, no?

Not that I know of. My astigmatism requires more correction than most people do for basic distance correction. It's basically the same as 50 years ago.

I have wondered if my astigmatism might be related to how I used to sleep. Often I buried my head in the pillow or leaned on my arm putting pressure on my eyes. Since astigmatism is the result of a misshapen cornea maybe that pressure caused it.

As I have only been on the tube for <3 months I have yet to know if sleeping on my back will help any. Did you change you sleep habits in any way that might effect your eyes?

I would have been born near-sighted. Now any kid I see squinting, syiang they have a headache, etc., I'm all "Have you told your mom? Can you see the board in class?" So hooray for catching it early!! And I don't think you're going to have to worry about kids making fun of her too much. She will just swat them with a glittery pirate girl purse!

Hi - is it not more likely that you were just mis-diagnosed the first time around - happens all the time, and is usually the reason for so many religious 'miracles' that supposedly take place.
