French toast cannot be made without scrambled (fried) eggs.
My hubby likes to make one slice of bread soak up an entire egg.
Never see THAT at Denny's.

Thanks for the clarification, chunkyfrog. I guess the egg is on my face, once again. Or at least, I wish it was.
In fact, I'll take one Reuben, one grilled cheese, and one stack of peanut-butter-and-fried-egg-enhanced french toast, please.
To stay.
Thanks.

Your argument is proceeding nicely but it is incomplete.
To make it complete you have to argue that the millions of nasal interface users who have no problems with "mouth openings" at night are in danger of asphyxiation should the CPAP process fail. After all CPAP failure would put them in the same situation as tapers. Can you make this argument?
Failing to argue this your above argument has failed.
Good point NightMonkey.
I would like to offer this in regard to an AA valve on the FF Masks. The nasal pillow can hold a very small volume of air. Even a small breath would expel its contents. It could be that the volume of a FF mask is large enough that there would be plausible concern. This is just a simple observation on my part. I have no data to back that up.
Even if that were the case, CO2 buildup drives the body to the same state that other non-breathing events lead to: Wake up and breathe!
I'm sure taping is not for everyone. All I know is, I would not be following my therapy if it were not for the Swift FX and my 3M Gentle Paper tape. I will tell you that I am keenly aware of the risks.
Before I apply that tape, I consider: Is my stomach upset? Have I been drinking?
I work to make sure that the answer to both of those are NO. Then, I tape up, get the PAPCAP on, pull on the mask, and head to dreamland. The process is working great with an AHI of about 1.5 for nearly a year.

For tapers wishing to install a valve in a nasal-pillows mask, Ozij has posted a nice mod for one mask:

That is a good question, but there's a definitive answer. If you can't breathe through your nose, you have a reflex that will make you open your mouth and breathe through it. Otherwise, we'd all die whenever we get a stuffy nose.
That's the reason given by the manufacturers and regulators for why you need an anti-asphyxia valve on a full face mask, but not on a nasal mask.

But what if you're wearing a chinstrap?

YOU are always asking for proof, links, etc. Would you be kind enuff to show us ALL where you found this statement YOU affirm above?
I am particularly interested in the "die" part.
So please before I tape myself to death, help me.

I did get a Respironics chin strap that did warn you could suffocate when wearing a chin strap if the machine quits.
I'm not worried about chinstraps myself. I find I can open my mouth pretty easily, even if I'm wearing a chinstrap.

I'll be glad to help you tape yourself to death. (Just kidding.)
I might see if I can find that statement if the mood strikes me sometimes. However, if you want to believe you'll die with a nasal mask and no tape if your cpap machine quits, or if your nose stuffs up, that's OK with me.

I do NOT believe. Which is why I asked for proof.
What I do believe is that you made that statement up and you know you can NOT find it.

I have been able to open my mouth (NO hands) with 3M tape on it. To me, chin straps are far too dangerous.
I pray that you can someday see the light.
