Data card not showing full night's usage

Post by teknomom » Mon Dec 19, 2011 8:32 am

I've been reading my SD card on Sleepyhead for the last 5 nights. The first 4 were great but last night the SD card showed only 30 seconds of data instead of the entire night that I used the machine. The machine itself showed that I had >4 hours of usage and my nightly average hours of use didn't go down. It just didn't seem to record it on the SD card. I use a Mac and I have been faithfully locking and unlocking the SD card when I take it out to read the data and put it back in the machine. If I had left it locked (which I didn't) there wouldn't be any data on the card - but 30 seconds of data? Did I do something wrong? I waited about 30 minutes before taking out the card. Does it take a while for the card to register the night's data? Could it be a Sleepyhead glitch?
Btw, my AHI was 439,762.5 for that 30 seconds!

It doesn't take but a few seconds to write the data to the card once the machine is turned off. I have watched it. Maybe 30 seconds...not minutes at all.

I would try putting the card back in and seeing if the machine would write it again. Maybe try unplugging machine prior to force a reboot. Try importing again after letting machine write to the card again.

You can go into the folders and see if there are the 3 normally seen files for last night.
You could try uploading to the online software Onkor...just last night's files to see if anything shows up in Onkor.. if it does then likely your issue is SleepyHead.

My first suspect would be SleepyHead bug since the machine is showing proper hours of use. But would not hurt to try the machine reboot thing.

Thanks Pugsy, I'll try those fixes!

Edit: I rebooted but that didn't help. The P folder had two subfolders: e and p0. Should there be three folders? Ever since the first time I've had SleepyHead download from the "Usual" location so I haven't really looked at it. Onkor showed some data but it was very different from my previous nights and it wouldn't download the wave forms.

2 folders I believe...P0 folder should have all the data files. May later have 3 folders with newest being a P1 folder. I think it depends on how much data gets accumulated. For me even after 6 months on the PR S1 APAP I only had P0 folder.

with 3 types of files with extensions
xxx.001
xxx.002
xxx.005 and this file contains wave form data.
I have had times where wave form was missing in SleepyHead and Pro so I suspect a damaged file for some reason but I have never experienced what you are describing.

Each sleep session gets a new set of 3 files..even if same night. Highest xxxx number indicates the most recent night's data files.

If Onkor won't load (and it won't if the xxx.005 is missing or damaged) then perhaps just a fluke set of damaged files from last night. SleepyHead Mac version is relatively stable but a SleepyHead bug is always a possibility. Only other way to test it would be with Encore software if it bugs you enough to go through all that hassle.

I can't think of any other ideas. Sorry but I think it is likely a damaged file or software glitch. I doubt it is your machine though.

The SD card seems to be working again. I got a full nights data. Thanks, Pugsy, for walking me through the alternatives. Onkor didn't seem to work that well for me but it is a way to check things. I feel like I know what to look for on the card now. I really love SleepyHead and I don't think it was a problem with the program. Thanks, JediMark!!

BTW, last night my AHI was <4 which is great for me!

I felt you probably already knew about those files (it's obvious you know your computer programing) but I went ahead and posted just in case. Besides it might help a newbie.

Perhaps it was just a damaged file. I have had Onkor fail on that .005 file myself and without it, Onkor won't work at all for that day.

Good to hear it was not a long term problem though. Scratch our heads and move on.

I don't understand computer programing but I'm not afraid to fiddle around with my computer to find out what's wrong. I'm glad today turned out OK because I was afraid I'd screwed something up.

"Scratch our heads and move on." You said it! Like so much of life!!
