new cpap machine

I currently have a ResMed AutoSet S8, which is about 6-7 years old. I am thinking of upgrading to the new S9. Can anyone tell me if they have made this switch and how they are liking it? thanks so much.

I suggest you edit your subject line to be more specific. Something like "Should I upgrade from auto S8 to Auto S9?"
That might get you more usesr with that specific experience. Good Luck. I love my S9 Auto but don't know a thing about the S8.

I started with the S8 Autoset and switched to the S9 Autoset. My understanding is that the S8 had it's own algorithm of reading apneas and hypopneas which was about 1/2 again as high for the same person, which was changed with the S9. The S9 seems to read like the rest of the industry, with an AHI of 5 or less being the desired level. So if I had a 4 on the S9 I might have a 6 on the S8. For me, I like being in alignment with most of the rest of the industry, so I'm comparing like numbers when I read this discussion board.

I found both to be equally quiet and easy to use.

Here's a link from CPAPtalk.com: viewtopic/t71329/Resmed-S8-AutoSet-VS-R ... toSet.html

Here's a discussion about the s8 vs s9 AHI on another discussion board: http://s7.zetaboards.com/Apnea_Board/topic/8503398/1/

Have fun!

Among other improvements, the S9 AutoSet records waveforms of the airflow for your breaths all night long. Having an S9 vs. S8 is like having an EEG vs. having someone record your pulse rate for a heart patient.

The S9 uses a standard SD memory card. The S8 uses a nonstandard memory card that is hard to find the card reader for.

You can get SleepyHead, a free, open source program to read the data for your S9 machine.

It's good to check your own data. Even if you don't want to bother, if your CPAP doctor is competent, he can use the better data from the S9 machine to figure out problems with your treatment.
