Dr. appt. results
Dr. appt. results
I just got home from the appt. & here is the results…The doctor set the machine for cpap usage only, at the pressure of 8. He looked over all the reports & also is now questioning why the sleep center insists that I have apnea to begin with.So he wants me to try using cpap for 3 months & then he said he may do another sleep study or take me completely off the therapy.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Re: Dr. appt. results
I dont see any of your results here unless im missing something
Re: Dr. appt. results
Sorry I should have stated that it is what the doctor said today at the visit. I was on an apap set at 8 & 12. The doctor said he has no use for apap's & put me back on the cpap at the setting of 8. He wants me to try for 3 months on straight cpap, then if things are still not going good he is going to do another sleep study. He does not understand why I am on cpap therapy to begin with. So on that note I am a little confused & was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Dr. appt. results
What were the results of your sleep study? This would certainly tell you the story as to whether you have OSA or not. If you didn't get a copy, you can request it - it's yours, you paid for it - directly or indirectly.
Once you have that it will be easier for those here to offer more.
Cheers,

Re: Dr. appt. results
I have the sleep study in front of me, but not sure exactly what I am looking for. It has OSA-327.23, Primary Central Sleep Apnea -327.21. I don't understand the numbers. AHI of 24.
Thanks

Re: Dr. appt. results
First, get copies of your full sleep study results and the Rx for the machine/mask. You are entitled to have these copies for your personal records, but the office is permitted to charge a reasonable fee for making the copies.
Second, your doctor isn't the one using the machine, you are. You need to become knowledgable and empowered to handle your own therapy, and in doing so, learn to adjust the settings of your machine and tweak things to YOUR liking.
Third, most doctors say they don't like apaps.... it is a silly thing, really. Using your machine in apap mode allows you to find your 'sweet spot' via monitoring your efficacy with the software, tweaking the settings as needed, and getting the sleep/therapy you need! Some folks here will tell you they did this, found their 'sweet spot' and moved to cpap mode at a set pressure and are fine. They will periodically move back to apap to check things out. Others prefer the pressure range apap offers overnight to catch events. It is a personal choice for YOU, not your doctor.
Your pressure range was initially 8-12.... a fairly normal, and low end range. Moving you to the lowest end of that range seems odd. A set pressure might have been better in the middle at 10.
If you don't have the clinician's manual for your machine....so you can change things for yourself, let us know. You can get it easily enough. Do you have the software?
If you get the information mentioned above, and you have the software, we can help you navigate it and learn how to handle this on your own.

Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.
Re: Dr. appt. results
AHI of 24 is moderate OSA. The other numbers are medical codes for your diagnoses. You must have had some centrals as well as OSA.

AHI of 24 establishes the diagnosis easily.kaiya2465 wrote:It has OSA-327.23, Primary Central Sleep Apnea -327.21. I don't understand the numbers. AHI of 24.
You now mention Primary Central sleep apnea diagnosis along with Obstructive Sleep Apnea?
The S8 doesn't even score centrals.
the 327.xxx numbers are just diagnosis codes for insurance purposes.
And now this new doctor doesn't even think you have sleep apnea? Jeezzz.

Re: Dr. appt. results
I have the old software (Resscan). I did notice when I was checking the numbers while on apap it was usually at 10, so I am not sure if that is a good spot for me to start or not. I have still been able to only get about 2 hrs usage per night & asked him about it. He is not to worried about that as of yet. I am not willing to give up either but don't have alot of family support, so I get frustrated with myself. Sorry that I am so confused.
Thanks

Why do doctors think I am to small to be a candidate for xpap therapy? Is there such a thing?

I'm not at all impressed with the what your current "sleep doctor" is telling you.

Re: Dr. appt. results
Neither am I. I have been trying to learn on my own, & getting mad when I don't get things accomplished. I have been told I needed a bi-pap, now I am put back on cpap. I just don't understand. When he told me that he does not like apap because it adjusts all the time he stopped & would not go into further detail. So again I am going to try & swing it on my own & hopefully with the help of the forum.

I was thinking more like what a flipping idiot. With some much spicier language. My grandmother was 96 when she died and sometimes she would let loose with some words that would make a sailor blush. I would say "Granny, such word from your mouth".... She would say " Well, hell, sometimes no other adjectives will work". I guess I come by it honest. I am the spitting image of her in more ways than one.rested gal wrote:I'm not at all impressed with the what your current "sleep doctor" is telling you.
Probably because for the longest time (and some still think it now) that sleep apnea only happened to large, obese people with thick necks and mainly men. Completely outdated thinking. Even very small young children can have this problem. I am small petite woman myself with an 11 inch neck..skinny neck. "Why you don't look like you should have sleep apnea"...meaning I am not big and fat.kaiya2465 wrote:Why do doctors think I am to small to be a candidate for xpap therapy? Is there such a thing?
SleepingUgly who is a member of this forum...her 8 year old son was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and he gets to use the machine and wear a mask.
Even toddlers can have sleep apnea.

Thanks for the giggle Pugsy. You stated exactly what I have been thinking about the sleep doctors around here. He did use the excuse that I am female. I don't know what I was thinking when I thought he would be different coming from Florida. But oh well.
