AutoIQ revisited

Does anyone know when the Respironics CPAP with AutoIQ was introduced?
I just noticed there are still no reviews.
I also noticed that the price is now below $500. (at CPAP.com)
Interesting--maybe useful for someone with no insurance.

I think it was introduced at a sleep conference in Minneapolis this year -- June 2011.

The price at cpap.com is low, yes... but I think an uninsured person would do better checking Craig's lists for a true autopap machine, or watching this forum for someone offering an autopap for sale. I think they'd find opportunities to buy a real PR SI autopap, lightly used and in great condition complete with humidifier, for less than $500. After the first 30 days of use, an "AutoIQ" would not be like having a real autopap.

I really hope Respironics loses a TON of money because of that horrible machine.

And that they learn a lesson about nonsense like that evil 30 day lockout business. I also hope for a winning lottery ticket to fall from the sky, which probably has a similar chance of happening.

My System 1 Remstar Pro died on Thanksgiving morning, having served me faithfully for 392 days. I was lucky that someone from the DME was able to swap out my machine for a loaner that Friday and today I was back to return it. Phillips didn't fix my system, but replaced it with the AutoIQ (and a new humidifier, although the DME quickly grabbed the new water chamber that came with it). I can't complain because at worst the AutoIQ defaults to being the same as my previous Pro.

I don't know what the default AutoIQ setting is from the factory, but my system was set to run in straight CPAP mode. I'm going to run it that way to start, then when things slow down around here (hah hah) I'll try the AutoIQ. It'll be interesting to see if anything changes. Over the last 13+ months I've used a pressure of 13, and my overall average AHI is 1.0. I'm one of the lucky ones in that once I found the right mask I quickly adjusted to living life as a hosehead.

Has anyone gotten their hands on a clinician's manual for this beast?

If you ever do switch it to AutoIQ mode, Lyn, you might want to be sure to set it back to straight CPAP after you finish as much "autotitrating" as you want to do (up to the built-in max of 30 days) or the machine might have a mind of its own (every 30 hours) about what single pressure to use for you. Might keep adjusting up or down every 30 hours to a pressure you don't want.

"After the initial 30 days in auto adjusting mode, the system switches to Auto-Check Phase and functions as a CPAP delivering the pressure that the patient was at or below 90% of the time. The Auto-Check Phase continuously verifies pressure requirements and makes adjustments every 30 hours providing the user with more effective pressure levels over time."

I guess that wouldn't happen if you put it back into plain CPAP mode again. But...dunno.

Haven't heard yet of anyone that has a Provider manual.
