side sleeping with reduced CA and hyponeas

Post by Mr Bill » Tue Nov 01, 2011 12:31 pm

As some of you recall, I have to sleep supine because any sort of side sleeping induces so many centrals that I literally cannot fall asleep. I have thanked my lucky stars that I actually can fall asleep on my back. Well, it will be a year now that I have been on my ASV this coming Nov 19. I have often in the wee hours of the morning tried rolling on my side just to not sleep on my back figuring that being in such a sleepy state I might succeed. This last week I have found myself able to sleep on my left side late in the morning after sleeping supine all night without apparently many induced centrals and then I checked and I can also sleep on my right side. I cannot help but wonder what has changed over the course of getting sleep for a year that has lead to this improvement. I must confess some trepidation when I first found out I could only sleep on my back. I was worried that eventually I might loose even that. Now it seems my range of options is opening up and that is spirit lifting.

Way to go Bill, you've found something that "works" for you. I would hate to have to sleep on my back, would snore right through my mask if I did
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Hey Mr Bill,
Good deal! May need lower pressures too. One thing I discovered is that sleeping on my left side is better for my apnea then my right side. So check the numbers. You may have a good side too.

Bill; I too could only sleep on my back for the last 3 years, and only in the last 4 nights have I been able to sleep on my left side, and my ahi #'s have gone from from mid 50's and mid 40's to under 10, and apneas from the 20's to under 2.
I still feel like crap,, but it's a good start.
