Time for replacement?

Post by chicagocard » Sat Feb 11, 2006 9:28 am

Can someone please describe how you know when you need to replace your cpap machine? Does the machine just give up the ghost all at once or does something happen gradually? Does the sound of the machine change over time? Thank you.

Insurance will cover a new machine after 5 years, so that might be an indication of the longevity.

Not ALL insurance will cover a new machine after 5 years. Some consider a machine to be a once in a lifetime investment (the idiots). I say this from first hand experience with Community Blue of Western New York (part of Blue Cross/Blue Shield).

My original Respironics SoloLX (not a bad machine for a straight CPAP) started this thing where you'd press the button to start it and it would hum a little, pause, and then start. It worked and didn't emit any funny burning-electric smells, but ....

Hey they're electronic appliances. They can go bad in any number of ways. Or... they can run for a VERY long time.
