Free Resmed Swift FX and Pap Cap

Post by christinepi » Wed Sep 28, 2011 4:19 pm

Hi,

Not sure this is the right spot to post this--please redirect me if it isn't! Also I don't know what the policy is on used articles--just hope I'm not committing a faux pas here. But I also don't just want to throw something away if there is a chance somebody might want it.

Anyway, CPAP didn't work for me. So now I still have a barely used Swift FX (I switched to a full face mask after a week of wearing the Swift) http://www.resmed.com/us/products/swift ... c=patients, and a barely used PapCap in size M http://www.pur-sleep.com/. I felt like my head was in a vice, unbearable. But maybe it's my head shape, who knows. Anyway, if anyone's interested in these items, let me know.

try a sleepweaver before you give up. It is so easy to adjust too.

Untreated sleep apnea leaves you exposed to a host of serious medical problems, including high blood pressure, obesity, heart problems, stroke, psychological/psychiatric problems, and others. Not a good idea. I encourage you to continue the CPAP and report your problems here so that people who have overcome similar problems with CPAP can help you make it work.

I second the suggestion for a sleep weaver. I've tried 5 different masks and failed them all, 2 nasal masks, 2 different nasal pillow masks and a hybrid. Absolutely miserable. But the sleep weaver was so different.

The mask wasn't the problem. I've stopped CPAP ca 4 months ago after struggling like a madwoman with the relentless aerophagia (despite being negative for GERD). Besides, I've always been just under 5 AHIs (plus a smattering of RERAs) even before CPAP anyways, so I'm not worried. The whole thing was a rather unnecessary and costly exercise, in retrospect.

I'm skinny and my blood pressure is so low (and has been forever) it makes surgery interesting.

And believe me, there's a long trail of my posts filled with my problems.

Anyway, thanks for your concerns, but I've tried everything under the sun CPAP wise, to no avail.

I tried CBT for insomnia for a bit. It just so happened that I started having night sweats after two weeks of the therapy (I'm 50). So for the remaining 4 weeks of CBT I suffered so badly from interrupted sleep from the sweats that I could never find out whether CBT would work or not. And I've had them on and off ever since for the last 4 months. Great. This could go on for years... and I'm not a candidate for HRT because I've had breast cancer... (not that I would want HRT anyways...) so apnea isn't on the forefront of my concerns right now.
