Humidifier Repair?

Post by saltyk9 » Fri Sep 09, 2011 12:33 pm

When I turn on my CPAP, the humidifer LED blinks for about 10 minutes and then finally goes away.
When I wake up in the morning, my throat is not really dry, but I don't think that they humidifier is working because the water level BARELY (maybe not at all) changes.
I have taken it apart and it is extremely simple (looks like it probably takes about $5 to manufacture) but can't find anything wrong with it.
Anybody ever had this problem before?

Here is what the PR S1 manual on the humidifier says:

The humidifier LED icon on the therapy device is flashing.

1) There is no communication between the therapy device and the humidifier.

Following the Daily Use section earlier in this manual, check the outlet power and verify that the humidifier and therapy device are properly plugged in. Make sure the AC power cord is connected correctly to the therapy device’s power supply. Make sure the AC power cord is correctly plugged into the wall.
If the problem continues to occur, contact your home care provider. Return the humidifier, therapy device, and power supply to your provider, to determine if the problem is with the therapy device, humidifier, or power supply.

or

2) The therapy device is not seated properly against the humidifier.

Remove the therapy device from the humidifier and reconnect it. Make sure the air inlet port on the side of the humidifier connects securely to the air outlet port on the side of the device.

or

3) The heater plate is not heating.

Check the power connections to the humidifier. If the problem continues, contact your home care provider or Respironics.
Note: If the water is not heating, you can temporarily use the humidifier as an unheated pass-over humidifier

Thank you for the response. I have done all of these things.
Since I bought my CPAP and humidifier off the black market (cpap new, humidifier used and did not come with water tank) I can't exactly send it back to my provider.
Was wondering if anyone had any idea on how to fix these. Like I said, I cannot find anything loose or disconnected, so perhaps the heater plate is defective.

Well...first thing check to see if heater plate is working. Turn the machine on and let it run for about 15 minutes then remove the tank and feel the bottom.

If it is not warm at all....don't know what to tell you but you will have an answer.
If it is warm...go ahead and change the humidifier settings..turn them up so that more water would be used.
Thinking maybe on the off chance your room humidity and temps are such that not much water is needed nor much heat.
Also change the humidifier setting back to the "Classic" setting where it uses strictly heat and will use more water.

I use a setting of 4 on my PR S1 humidifier in the new sensory mode. It barely uses a quarter reduction.. If I use same setting on Classic mode I will pretty much use all the water in one night.

Saltyk9,

If all else fails, you might try giving Dennis Thorne a call at our company. He might be able to think of something that is not readily obvious. He amazes me sometimes at the tricks he has up his sleeve. He's in our Indiana operation this week 765-478-9400. Tell him Ian sent you!
