Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

At one time they WERE the same Company...

From DeVilbiss Automotive:
A History of Innovation

Founded in 1888 when Toledo, Ohio physician Dr. Allen DeVilbiss combined a bulb, some tubing, and the base of an oil can to create the first atomizer for health care.

In 1907, Thomas DeVilbiss, an inventor in his own right, experimented with adapting the original atomizer to create a spray gun to meet the challenges of spray finishing. Mass production was beginning to evolve at this time and Thomas DeVilbiss' spray gun technology proved to be a revolutionary addition to the paint and lacquer coating applications on the furniture and automotive finishing assembly line. Spraying the lacquer reduced drying time to hours instead of weeks and the spraying of paint replaced hand brushing, helping to create new jobs and increase productivity in manufacturing.

Since then, DeVilbiss has maintained its commitment to innovative technology. DeVilbiss' team of engineers use the same design tools used to develop NASCAR combustion systems along with NASA combustion systems for the space shuttle. Combined with our state-of-the-art manufacturing machinery, we continue to develop the most advanced spray guns the market has seen.

DeVilbiss products are used with unequaled success in the automotive refinishing market. DeVilbiss equipment provides excellent atomization of high-solids clears that leads to glass like finishes. DeVilbiss equipment is optimized to virtually eliminate mottling and striping with metallic base coats and produce excellent color match.

Purchased by Illinois Tool Works in 1990, DeVilbiss continues to set the standard for spray finishing through its research and development, innovative product line, and commitment to customer service.

From Devilbiss Healthcare
About Us
Dr. DeVilbissIn 1888, Dr Allen DeVilbiss founded DeVilbiss Manufacturing. Allen DeVilbiss was a country doctor with simple values. The kind of doctor who tried to make life easier for the folks he treated by finding better ways to care for them. Such was the case more than a century ago when he developed the first DeVilbiss atomizer, which made it possible to spray medication in a patient’s nose and throat and eliminated the necessity for unpleasant and inefficient swabbing.

While the new atomizer was an instant success, the market at that time seemed to be limited, and Dr. DeVilbiss could not find anyone who would manufacture the device. As a result, he formed an individual proprietorship known as The DeVilbiss Manufacturing Company, in Toledo, Ohio to make the atomizer. Soon he perfected and patented an adjustable tip to control the spray, which increased its usefulness tremendously.

The DeVilbiss Model 15 atomizer – one of the first models manufactured in the new company – and many other earlier inventions are still part of the DeVilbiss Healthcare product portfolio today.

DeVilbiss Healthcare is a global manufacturer and distributor of respiratory therapy products and has established a reputation for excellence, both for the products themselves and also the high quality after sales service.

Working closely with commercial partners, clinical customers and private patients, DeVilbiss Healthcare continues to develop highly reliable quality products and services in the oxygen and aerosol therapy markets, as well as designing and manufacturing innovative products for the sleep therapy market.

My DH was a factory spray painter for 10 years.
He says this make of gun was one of the best.
I was so relieved when he moved to a different department.
He always had solvent on his breath--even in the middle of the night.
Now there is much better air supplied to painters--per OSHA.

Good find, JimCanzo. Thank you.

And thank you, Chunky, for that interesting, but I am sure to you dismaying, info about the smell of solvent remaining on your husband's breath after a day in the paint shop.

They've also made industrial paint sprayers over 30 years ago (and still might). Chances are if your car was ever in a body shop it was painted with a DeVilbiss spray gun. Oddly enough both of these applications and CPAP are very much dependent on air pressures and air flow.
Didn't Resmed use parts from a vacuum cleaner for its first CPAP? If Hoover had been a bit more on the ball, we would all be using Hoover CPAP machines...
