Help!

Post by 77Godspeed » Fri Sep 02, 2011 11:22 am

I started having aerophgia, I have an auto adjust machine, my range is 9-17, my prescribed pressure is 10. last night my pressure went up to 16 and I woke up this morning with a stomach full of air. Should I lower the top range? I think it went up because of leaks.

thanks for your help

If your prescribed pressure is 10 I would have the settings at 9 and 11. Why was it set up at 9 and 17?

Not sure why, but after I started this therapy when I go into REM sleep or get on my back it seems that I need more pressure, its reads about 12.5 to 14 sometimes at 90 to 95%, however the % of time at that level is 1-2% of about an 8 hour time.

Higher pressures (max) can sure increase the chances of aerophagia.
If it happens a lot...just reduce the maximum downwards a bit to limit the odds of the extra pressure causing problems.
Sometimes it is a leak that causes the pressure to go up.. then the extra pressure makes it harder to keep a seal and thus feeds the leak monster more..then the pressure goes up...and this creates a nasty little circle.

If you happen to have some events needing 16 or 17 pressure you may have to compromise..which is worse letting the events happen or dealing with the aerophagia? If it is only an occasional random event that needs the max pressure..well maybe you could just let it happen. Sometimes we have to compromise.

Of course if it is mask leak feeding the leak monster...it may not even be an event causing the increase in pressure.
You might try reducing the maximum to the 14 that the machine rarely goes above. Watch your reports. See if AHI is any worse or not. We can't realistically expect to kill all events anyway.

If that is the case you need to figure out the best way to stop the leaks. Change mask or just mask size. Pad-a-cheek has help many forum members with their leaks. http://www.padacheek.com/PAC_Maskliners.html

I just put on the pad-a-cheeks so we will see what happens tonight. My problem is I get a good seal when I go to bed but the skin sweats under the silicone where the mask meets my face. The leaks start once that area gets a little damp. The pad-a-cheeks seem to let that area breath ever so slightly so I have high hopes. I bought the liner and the leak strap for even more support. I use the Quattro FX. Would run you 34 bucks with shipping.
