Nose driness using nasal pillows.

Post by Barney100 » Sun Aug 28, 2011 2:03 pm

I have had problems with severe pressure marks when I use Gel masks or anything that touches or rubs the bridge of my nose. For almost 6 months I used a Full Face Mask, called FitLife. It did a great job and was comfortable but it left deforming ridges in my cheeks. Within the past 2 weeks I have been trying a mask called the Hybred. As you may know, it uses a combination of a full mask used with Nasal Pillows. It is comfortable and leaves no marks, BUT, the constant air passing through the nasal passages, leaves the inside of my nose very dry and painful half way through the night. I have used Vasoline inside my nose and it works fairly well, but it ruins the Nasal Pillows because it is made from Petrolium. Does anyone know how I can resolve this problem?

Use a nose gel you can get in the pharmacy section, forget what it is called in the U.S. but it is a water soluble type. smear a dab of it on the nasal pillows and but a bit up your nose to protect it and see how that goes, your nose may get used to it and this will probably help. I hope si anyway.

Ayr gel might be what you're thinking of. You can put it on the outside and on the inside of your nose to help with dryness.

Ayr works for me, too. I found it in the children's cold med section. It costs a lot, but goes a long way. It's even helping an itch on hubby's face.

Lanisoh is another product you can use (found in the baby department--it soothes mommy when the little one nurses too roughly.)
Others have used K-Y jelly successfully--No one said CPAP couldn't be sexy!

You might also try a saline nasal spray to hydrate the tissues. Simply Saline is one such brand. Use it once or twice a day.

I use a saline spray as well. "Ocean", I found large bottles of it at Wal-Mart. I use a few squirts during the day to keep my nose cleaned out and moist.

Janknitz is right. Sometimes prevention works better than trying to play catch up. Keep the nasal mucosa well hydrated during the day may help with any dryness during the night. Sure won't hurt.

What I thought was stuffyness ( is that a word?)was actually dryness. Started using AYR before going to bed and I have no problems since.
