Got my S9 Elite!

Post by Elsh » Fri Jul 01, 2011 9:19 am

Yes, I finally got it! Replaced that stupid Escape they stuck me with to begin with. All thanks to Pugsy for pointing out to me that I got stuck with a brick!

The woman who brought over my Elite (my DME) did not seem very pleased to be switching it out for me, or she seemed hurried, or both. Whatever.

Anyway, is there anything special I should know? I downloaded the software linked here, and am going to watch this tutorial here.

Now all I have to do is buy one of these things and get my DME to send me the mask I want when it comes in, and I should be all set! Well, apart from then needing to see the sleep specialist because I've been put on a pressure of 4 and have had to change it to 5 just to breathe. Hopefully the sleep specialist will increase my pressure.

Thanks to everyone on this board who has been a support and help to me!

Good job. Most of the hurdles have been met. I think once you get that new mask you will we well on your way to getting comfortable and effective therapy along with the knowledge to see just how it is going.

3 months from now you will be an old pro at this.

I wish she would have given you an autoset machine instead of just a CPAP then you could have tried auto mode with a range of pressure as well as just a fixed pressure CPAP.

If you read the clinical manual you will be able to unlock the menu and change your own pressure. No doc visit, no co-pay, just taking care of yourself

Yep, I have changed my pressure to 5, instead of 4, but don't really feel comfortable going higher than that without a doctor's recommendation.

Yep i was a bit nervous too. Actually i called my doctors office and the RT consulted with the doctor and gave me authorization over the phone to change my own pressure.

Breathing at 4 can be hard, especially if you are not relaxed and breathing nice and slow before you mask up.

What pressure were you titrated at? thats normally a good safe place to start unless you have anything else going on.

I was titrated at 6 & 7. Not sure why the doctor wants me at 4. He specifically told me the other day that he wants me at 4 when I suggested increasing the pressure.

The whole idea of titration is to dial in on the best pressure to treat your sleep apnea. If he was just going to start you at 4 then why did he bother getting you titrated in the first place? Seems strange.

You know you've slept at 6 & 7 and its medically documented that that is best for you. I would go up to 6 or 7 without any worries.

Also now you have the data capable machine and software do you have your leak rate, AHI score and any detailed charts from resScan you can post?

If you were titrated at 6 & 7, it is bizarre not to start you at 6. That's the whole point of the titration. Did you have a lot of central apneas during your sleep study? If so, that could be a reason to keep the pressure unusually low, but otherwise it makes no sense.

Maybe your doc is simply determined to be "the boss." Maybe he's the type of doctor who has a knee-jerk "NO" mentality to anything suggested by a lowly patient -- even if what the person suggested makes sense. (Or maybe especially if what the person suggested makes sense.)

Maybe he has good reason. But I doubt it.

I don't know if I did or not. I didn't really get any information about my sleep study.
