Weight Loss Club - Friday Baseline/Goals

Post by kikisue » Fri Jan 06, 2006 12:12 pm

As requested, I'm starting this new thread for those of us who want to work on our weight in 2006. We're starting off with where we are now and what our goal is, and we will check in on Fridays to report progress or frustrations, encourage each other, etc.

I'll start with me - I'm currently at 198 pounds. 5'6 1/2" tall. At my heaviest in September 04, I was at 228, so I have lost 30 pounds. I got to my lowest in February 05 at 192 pounds, then hit a brick wall. Over the last couple months - don't you love holidays!! - I've put back on some of the pounds. SO, I really need to get back on the wagon.

Goals - my current realistic goal is 175. If I get there, I'll be pretty happy. My doctor would probably prefer more like 155 - 160. However, my main focus is on how I feel, how clothes fit, etc. so I'll be measuring inches as well. As I think Swordz mentioned, exercise will build muscle and that muscles weigh more than fat - but you're in better shape and more effectively using calories.

If you don't want to share your actual weight - that's okay - just share your goal and how we can help encourage you best.

In my case, I really need encouragement to get my lazy butt up early enough to exercise, especially during the week. I get up at 5:30 as it is - have to get up at 5 to exercise and the snooze just seems so much easier....

However, I resolve to exercise this weekend, and start Monday morning to get up at 5 and exercise. Now, if I can also stay away from chocolate I'll be doing pretty well......

Karen

Karen,
Good to see you posted it!

I have about 50 lbs. to lose. (OMG...where DID it come from???)

My initial goal is to become dedicated to doing the weight loss! I have started an exercise program using a home machine I purchased 2 years ago and has been a handy dandy clothes holder since then. For the last two days I used it while watching TV. I want to do this every morning, correction, I will do this every morning.

My 2nd goal is to drink lots of water. I am not a water drinker and this had always been an issue for me. But with the mind set that it is so benificial to my body I will pretend it is rum and drink quantities of it.

So let's go people....join in...what have you got to lose??? Oh, yeah, a lot of unhealthy FAT!

Ok, I'll try to chime in on Fridays also. Started CPAP in Jun 05, took about two months of struggling, but finally got used to it all.
December 2004 Annual Physical Weight 209, Height 5'6".
Current weight 190, my goal is also to get down around 175!!!!
I currently lift weights, ride 18 speed bike, hike & walk, do yardwork, garden & flower beds in good weather, use recumbant bike and elliptical machine. I have found that the biking and lifting weights has done the most good for me. I have lost 6" inches of fat off my body in the last few months. I keep track of my workouts on an exercise calendar in my weight room in the basement. It really helps me to keep me motivated and honest about how much I'm exercising. I am not on a diet, but am trying to eat less and alot more sensibly. I am looking and feeling alot better, that's the important thing!!! My goal for this year is to try to fit exercise, sensible eating and alot of laughter in everday!!!!! Good Luck to all us hoseheads!!!

Hello All,

Karen this is a great idea!!!!

Ok I am very overweight so I won't even tell you how much I need/want to lose. Let's just say I'm going to work on this in small sections so I don't feel overwhelmed and give up before I begin.

Now that my Sleep Apnea is mostly under control and I have more energy it is truly the time to nip this in the bud.

My goals are many. To name a few:

1. Fully switch over from Coke to diet AND cut back on the caffeine. I switched to reg. Coke last February when my tiredness and fatigue hit. Ok poor excuse but it did help some in the interim. Now it's a nasty habit.

2. Drink more water. Before the tiredness and fatigue I used to drink tons of water and hardly any caffeine so I know I can do it.

3. Get the walking DVD out of its case and actually use it. I don't like walking outside alone and frankly in Michigan it's too cold and frigid right now.

4. Slowly restructure my eating habits. I want to introduce more vegetables and work on my portion control. I actually started working on portions in the last week, so I'm on the right track.

I don't plan on doing a weigh-in very often. With the amount of weight I have to lose, I don't want to get stuck on a number. I have a feeling I'll eventually be converting this fat into muscle, so I don't want to focus on numbers too closely. Ok, I'll be more focused on how my clothes are fitting me and how I go down in dress sizes. To me, that's how I'll measure my success.

I will try to check in on Fridays to tell you all how it's going.

Melinda

p.s. I'm a chocoholic too...

This is so cool!! I'm encouraged already!

There are a couple things I noticed we all mentioned needing to do - drink lots of water. I know that my initial weight loss can probably be attributed to switching from Coke to water. Now I can't even drink the stuff - tried some over the holidays and it just tasted too sweet. However, I find I really don't like most diet sodas - not much flavor. The exception for me has been root beer - the diet still tastes pretty good.

To help get the water in - what I do is I have a 24 oz. water bottle that I reuse - fill it from our filtered water at the office. I'm lucky that the company provides it - it's cold and tastes pretty good. I know that I have to fill the bottle 3 times through the day to get my water in. At first it was REALLY tough, and ran to the restroom a lot But, now if I don't have water with me I get really dry and miss it.

Another trick some people do is the flavored waters, or squeeze your own lime/lemon etc. into the water. That can help, if you just don't like the taste of plain water. You can also mix Crystal Light powders into water, they have many flavors. I also drink herbal tea in the winter - as long as what you're drinking doesn't have caffeine you can count it toward your 6 - 8 glasses.

Melinda - what walk DVD's do you have? I have several Leslie Sansone, and I really like them - not like most exercise videos that are too hard to get the movements down! In Texas, we don't have the too cold problem, but in the summer it's way too HOT to walk outside!

The point about weighing too often is a great one - measurements are the real show of how we're doing, as well as how we feel. Sort of like this hosehead adventure - a lot of it is how you feel vs. specific numbers!

Happy Healthy Day, everyone!
Karen

Weight Goals

Post by sapphireskye » Fri Jan 06, 2006 2:21 pm

Well I have lost about 7 lbs in the last two weeks. I am not comfortable mentioning my weight, but it will take forever for me. But, I have started eating better, and my doc has put me on metformin to help with insulin resistance from PCOS. Well thats my post for now.

God bless

Okay, I"m in. I need to lose about 55 pounds. I'm desperately trying to count my WW points....so far I'm counting until I am WAY over my limit, lol. But I'm narrowing it down and getting closer and closer to the actual diet.

So my short-term goal? I'd like to lose two pounds by next Friday.

Hi Karen,

I have the Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds 1 mile and 2 miles. My aunt and cousin recommended her. They said it was a good workout and not too hard. I'm hoping they are right. So far I've gotten as far as taking the wrapping off the DVD. I'm bound and determined to start it this week.

Hello all y'all.

I am currently at 325 lbs. 6'2" tall (if I dont slouch)

My end goal is to lose 125 lbs to put me at 200.

My primary goal is to develop and disciplen myself to a sensible diet that I can keep for life and start working out again, but also to do that sensibly and with long term "lifestyle change" in mind and not immediate gratification.

I need all the support I can get.

Do to the type of auto-immune disease I have, I cannot do exercises nor go to physical therapy because I wear out to quick, find it hard to breath.

I have Sarcoidosis which replaces all the good tissue with hard tissue and no elasticity.

I am cutting my calories and my eating.

I sure hope that helps.

What a fabulous idea! I need all the support I can get.

My goal is 60 pounds - I won't say where I am now or how tall I am - but I will try to post results against my goals.

Thanks so much Karen!

Great Idea! I will try and post on Fridays. I haven't been on here for awhile and missed this on Friday.

I need to loose 40 lbs that I have gained over the past 1 1/2 years to reach my goal weight. I am now at the highest weight that I have ever been. Eating out, vacations, and loving to cook does not agree with me.

Anyway,we have started Weight Watchers in our department at work and most are participating. I have lost 2 lbs since last Wednesday, and have dusted off my menagerie of exercise equipment and doing 30 minutes per day. It may not cure my apnea, but I will definitely have more energy.

One thing that helps me is my scale is in my kitchen and I use it faithfully. Sometimes several times a day. I have studied nutrition so I know full well what I am supposed to be eating (I just happen to love sugar..and pizza..and bread..and wine, etc., etc.) .

Good luck to all of you!

Ok, I'm in.
I am 5'5", and need to lose 50 lbs ideally. But, I am going to be sensible and say I would be happy losing 40lbs. Or, 30, or 20.
For my exercise yesterday I mowed the lawn, with a push mower.
I will try to remember to post each Friday.
I don't know where these 50 lbs came from either!!!!

I will try to exercise every day, and if not, every other day. This is the aspect I have to work on the most, because we have been having really beautiful days here, and I don't work, etc. I just walk in the neighborhood, even though I have 2 walking trails that I can use.

Good luck(or hard work) everyone

Marie

I sure know where my pounds came from. I love to eat. I eat the healthy stuff but too much of it & I like to snack. I would like to have a food meter on my mouth so that after the allotted amount, a lock would automatically activate to prevent any more food from entering.
Don't know if I can check in every Friday but I still would like to join the group in trying to lose the pounds. I weigh 220 and stand 6' 2". I would like to lose 35 lbs to get down to 185 lbs.
I will mark my calendar showing Fridays as the day to weigh & report.

Glad this thread was started. Thanks.
