First night with new S9 Autoset

Post by JointPain » Sat Apr 30, 2011 12:47 pm

My new S9 Autoset arrived yesterday (awesome job cpap.com: 36 hours from order to doorstep), after 9 years of using a non data capable Resmed S6 Lightweight.

I want to get an idea of what my stats have been, so last night I set it up identically to my old prescription: CPAP 11 cm, no apr, no smart start, no humidifier, same mask. (I had to use the new slimline hose because I found a leak in the old hose, but that's for a different thread.) I'll stay on this setup and these settings for at least a week.

Bottom line is an AHI of 1.9 which seems pretty good (and I feel good too). There was one bad mask leak in the middle of the night, but otherwise the leak rate was low nearly all night with the 95% mark well below the cutoff. This was something I had been worried about, since when I'm awake it leaks if I am on my right side and I had no idea if I sleep that way. (When awake I definitely prefer my left side (no cpap) or back (with cpap)).

Playing with all the detailed graphs in the software is really interesting. The graphs themselves are probably only of interest to me; there's nothing terribly remarkable in them. There were 2 OSAs (21 and 16 seconds I presume) and 4 centrals (three 11 and one 14). The 21 second OSA was preceded by a bunch of hypopneas and followed by much deeper breathing than baseline. In contrast, two of the centrals were preceded by a short burst of deeper breathing and all four were followed by normal breathing. The second (16 second) OSA seemed more like a central: no obvious deeper breathing either before or after.

I'm not quite sure what some of the other graphs are yet, or even how to pronounce some of them (Is "Minute Ventilation" pronounced like "60 seconds" or like "very small"?).

So, overall a good night and I feel so much better informed. Thanks to all the members here for their comments and suggestions regarding data capable machines and software.

Mask: Swift™ FX Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask with Headgear
Humidifier: S9™ Series H5i™ Heated Humidifier with Climate Control
Additional Comments: Pressure is 11-14. Old CPAP was a Resmed S6 Lightweight. Also have Profile lite mask. ResScan is actually version 3.14. Now I use Sleepyhead.
