swollen or "puffy" hands??
swollen or "puffy" hands??
Does anyone else, when taking a long walk, notice that if you make a light fist with your hands, they feel tighter, or kind of swollen? (I've always assumed it was probably from blood pooling in my hands from swinging my arms for an extended period of time, but that's a tangent, really.)
The last several mornings I've woken with my hands like that.
I don't think I'm sleeping any differently as evidenced by checking my body position at my usual several-per-night wakeups, and the absence of numbness/tingling in my hands/arms/shoulders.
So, any ideas what's up?

Are you taking any medication where sun exposure will cause hand swelling? How bad is the swelling ? Worth seeing the Dr. ?
Re: swollen or "puffy" hands??
Haven't changed any meds recently, and nothing lists that side effect. Haven't changed eating habits either. Don't notice any edema in feet/ankles, either.
It's not really bad...not worth a dr appt...goes away after being up for a short while. Probably just natural variability of the ol' bod.
I've also had more "charlie horse" leg cramps in the past two months, than in the past two decades.

Re: swollen or "puffy" hands??
The leg cramps are often the result of a change in heel height on shoes, too much diet pop depleting mineral stores, or ultimately a lack of magnesium in your body.
You can safely try a magnesium/calcium supplement...........unless you have multiple medical conditions and medications---then I would check with your physician or pharmacist for the effiacy in your particular situation.
I do not believe that this is cpap related..........

yes hands and feet. Solutions, less salt, more water, less caffiene and lots more exercise and the problem will go away...this is assuming you do not have any other health issues like high blood pressure, diabetes or heart issues.

Thanks for the info. I learned my leg cramps are prob from my new diet cola 'addiction", and puffy hands are probably too much sodium not enough water... wonder if they are related. I just started CPAP and noticed puffy hands the next day (and everyday since)

Re: swollen or "puffy" hands??
I have that but only in my right hand. Some mornings worse than others. It subsides during the day. I have no idea what causes it but it seems to be fluid build up. Mine isn't severe enough to be visible but my hand feels very tight and it's difficult to make a fist. This has been happening for a couple of years off and on. My doctor doesn't know. The only medication I take is a very low dose of metoprolol as needed to settle PACs (pre-atrial contractions) which sometimes happen after eating. I don't think this drug, a beta blocker, has anything to do with it. I'm otherwise healthy, exercise regularly and my OSA is well controlled with plain old CPAP at 9.
