Cholesterol

Post by CuriousNewbie » Mon Mar 21, 2011 10:30 am

I'm relatively new to the whole CPAP lifestyle and have a question for you long-timers.

My HDL (good cholesterol) is low and my triglycerides are high. Overall my cholesterol is fine. Results have been like this for many years despite healthy eating and lots of exercise. I have been on CPAP for a few months now. I had a blood test done about a month into my CPAP experience and my triglycerides were way down for the first time in forever. HDL was slightly up but still low.

Now for the question: can CPAP increase HDL and lower triglyerides? Have any of you noticed positive changes in your lipid profile after starting CPAP? It seems plausible given that CPAP could help since apnea causes stress on the body.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't been on CPAP long enough to have new labs done to see any changes in my cholesterol, however what made the biggest impact on my HDL, LDL and trigs was eating low-carb and increasing good fats. Even meds didn't make much difference until I changed my diet and the changes were like night and day between 3-month labs.

Cheers,
xena

Cpap for nearly 2 years now. No change but then other than cholesterol being stubbornly 1 point above normal range, not much to really want to change. No meds either. Just that one annoying point.... Everything else is fine, all the good/bad ratios are fine.
