Wanted - heated humidifier

Post by groggybob » Thu Dec 15, 2005 5:58 am

I have acquired a nasal mask that at this point I can only wear for about an hour before my sinuses start burning so badly that I end up ripping the mask off, emphasize RIPPING. Nearly took my ear off last night.

I have tried the heating pad trick under my humidifier and it seems to alleviate the burning. Unfortunately all heating pads available have an auto-shutoff feature set for 60 minutes.

Does anyone have a heated humidifier collecting dust somewhere that they would be willing to part with. I am using a Remstar Pro machine. Willing to pay for it and shipping, just can't afford a new one at this time.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

You are right to think you need to get a heated humidifier. You can buy one at cpap.com for $160 shipping included. I doubt that you could find a used one for significantly cheaper than that by the time you pay for shipping.

here is the link:

Check yahoo auctions. There are HC150's on there quite often and usually less than $100.

The Fisher and Paykel HC 150 separate heated humidifier is my #1 choice, by far!!! I'd rather use it than any integrated humidifier that you can buy for specific machines... because:

1. It works soooo well.

2. Holds more water than some of the integrated ones.

3. Can be set on a separate shelf of nightstand, or on the floor, if you wish.

4. Less chance of spillage or leak getting to the machine if a minor catastrophe happens. (See #3)

5. Easy to fill from the top - get a funnel and just pour in the distilled water directly from its jug.

6. Don't have to inflict wear and tear on the humidifier-to-machine gasket wrestling an integrated humidifier off the cpap machine every time you want to clean the water chamber. (Actually, I just add more distilled water without dumping the chamber's water.)

7. If you change to a different machine, the HC 150 can go to it - no need to spend extra bucks on yet another machine's different integrated humidifier.

8. The controls are up front; easy to reach down and turn the heat dial during the night.

9. New HC 150's are often available at great savings at online auctions, just like the Guest said.

10. Did I mention? ...the HC 150 works soooo well! Hey, I needed a #10 to round things out nicely!

Thanks for the info rested, you need to have your own section of the board for product reviews.

The HC150 is impressive and particularly interesting is the ambient tracking feature. Does this feature really work or would I still need to insulate the hose? We normally turn the heat down to about 60 degrees at night and I would guess that rainout would occur even with ambient tracking.
