Got a cold....

Post by sleepingatlast » Wed Feb 09, 2011 6:45 pm

First cold on CPAP. Started as chest congestion and is now in my nose and sinuses. What can I expect tonight?

All depends...
I cranked up the humidifier full blast and let the humidity help. Remember how good that hot steamy shower feels or breathing over steam? Take whatever you can to help with cough, sneeze, etc and do the best you can. I found I slept no worse than I would have with the cold and no CPAP. Wasn't great but wouldn't have been great anyway.
I didn't use FF mask. I just used my nasal pillow mask. I think the extra moisture helped me but as they say, your mileage may vary.

Good luck. It is not fun at all.

I've got a bad cold myself. It isn't much fun to sneeze in a full face mask, but I've found it won't hurt me. It is helpful to have full face as a back-up if the congestion is bad enough that you need to breath through your mouth. I agree with Pugsy, CPAP doesn't make a cold any worse than it would otherwise be.

I sneezed in a full face mask once with a cold. I had to get up and wash it out. It was really gross. Everyone get well soon.

Hello dear member, Really it's not easy to sneezing all the time and open your mouth with out any voice. Keeping a ha kerchief in your hand or a tissue, It's really irritating but what can any body do in this sense.....? Just take some antibiotic and have coffee. Use a face mask, saving yourself from dust and avoid using cold water.......

As with colds, the first couple days or night are usually the worst. Glad to hear that you survived the first one well enough. Just keep doing the usual to try to limit your symptoms and feel better.

I have been fortunate and only had a couple of colds that were easily treated and no progression to other issues. It's nice to know that we can still use our usual masks and not have huge problems with it. I had such problems with a FF mask that I just felt that trying a FF mask during a cold would be worse for me than my nasal pillows. So I elected not to go down the FF road.
