Newbie - first night

Post by TimWK » Tue Jan 18, 2011 8:25 pm

The first night went OK. Went to bed at 10:30pm and turned the machine off at 7:00am. Didn’t sleep the whole time what with mask leeks and just the thought of the mask on, but probably averaged about 5 ½ hrs. of sleep. I start out as a side sleeper but then change to my back when asleep. My wife noticed the biggest difference; she said that she had never seen me this relaxed with no twitching of the body or legs. I hope that it goes this well again tonight.
My AHI index during my sleep test in Dec. was 36.2 and dropped last night to 11.7. That seems like a good drop and I hope it goes lower still with further treatment.
Thanks to this forum I knew what to look forward to.

Congratulations...seems you did better than me.

I need to keep trying it, as the benefits outweigh the negatives. I keep thinking if I just go to sleep without the mask just one night I might sleep.

Without the mask I slept, even though I would wake up during an apnea, but...I slept all night for the most part. Now I feel so sleep deprived. Tonight is night two for me....gonna try again. I did nap with the mask today and did ok, but did I sleep? Not sure I did.

Very good start, Tim! Welcome to the forum.

What pressure range was set for the autopap you're using?

And, is EPR turned on fulltime?

The APAP is set to CPAP mode, 8,0 cmH2O, EPR Fulltime, setting 3 for the last two nights. I'm setting the EPR setting to 2 for tonight.
The AHI went down last night to 3.8 and the mask leaks were much lower. Slept much better last night.
