Central apneas on S8 apap

Post by Little_Peep » Fri Jan 14, 2011 10:48 am

I've noticed on my Rescan data that I have no central apneas. Do I really have none or does the S8 not record centrals?

You didn't mention what pressures (range or fixed) you're using, but the algorithm (and sensors) in the S8 machines couldn't specifically identify "Centrals". Consequently, they didn't treat or try to pursue apneas over a pressure of 10 cm. unless they were preceded by snores or flow limitations. That's why the algorithm in those machines was called the "A10" algorithm.

The S8 models do not have any method for detecting a open airway apnea, so they can't report on them.

Cheers,

The S8 scores every apnea that you have (other than during ramp, when it does not score). However, it does not differentiate which apneas are which kind when it scores. As far as scoring, it considers an apnea to be an apnea, period. So if you are using software designed for showing different kinds of apneas, the info from the S8 would generally cause the software to put all apneas you have (obstructive, central, mixed, unknown, whatever) into the obstructive classification and put none in any of the other classifications.

Does that raise other questions for you, or does that cover it?
