Got the result of my sleep study titration I had a few weeks ago--it is quite puzzling to me!! Here is what part of the report said. How long are we supposed to be in REM sleep? (I took no drugs for this either.).
INTERPRETATION: Sleep latency was long at 82 minutes. REM latency was long at 351 minutes. Sleep efficiency was low at 68.5%. The patient slept 249 minutes on the right side and 113 minutes on the left side. The sleep in stage I was 7.3% of total sleep time, stage II was 36.1%, stage III was 30.7%, and REM 25.9%. A total of 140 arousals occurred. Most of the arousals occurred spontaneously. A small number of periodic limb movement occurred. The mean heart rate was 69 with sinus rhythm.
There was no significant drop in saturation below 90%. CPAP was started at 7 cm of water and titrated as high as 8 cm of water, which was the optimum pressure. The apnea-hypopnea index at 8 cm of water was in the normal range at 0.5. The patient appeared to tolerate CPAP well.

Re: Results of my Titration Night
I guess I should have posted some of my my questions ----what does 140 arousals mean? Why would I wake up so many times? No wonder i am tired when I get up! LOL! They only raised my pressure from 7 to 8 due to the weight loss--but did have any other suggestions to get better quality sleep other than the Dr. wrote to use a machine with C FLEX. ANyone know what that is? Is it the EPR on the Resmeds?
thanks everyone for your ideas and suggestions,
Carrie

CFLEX is Respironics... works similiar to EPR on Resmed (though not exactly the same)
Re: Results of my Titration Night
Did the report break down those 140 arousals into categories? If so, how many were labeled respiratory related? Any labeled as related to periodic limb movements? Or are they all labeled "spontaneous"? There are a number of us here with large numbers of spontaneous arousals. These are arousals that can't be pinned down based on the data in the sleep study. Why do we have them? I don't know. Some folks speculate that all kinds of different things can arouse us in our sleep including such things as pressure changes, leaks, or UARS problems that aren't picked up with the usual sleep lab wires.

Re: Results of my Titration Night
Thanks CFLAME----I think my Rs8 Elite has the EPR--I just need to turn it on. It has settings at 1,2 or 3. The DME called me yesterday and said I need to bring my machine to their place to get my pressure changed. When I said--"Can't I just do it myself"? She goes --OH NO--that cannot be done--WE have to do that for you. SHe acted like I was asking to murder somone--hahahaahaa!!!
Anyone in talking to her further --I asked if I could get the RS9 Auto machine since my insurance would probably pay for it and she says she will check into it. She is going to call my PCP and have him write the script for it. I hope that is true as I really would like to upgrade to the S9. I already told her I won't take anthing that doesn't show me my data!!! She realizes now that I do know what I am talking about. LOL!
I have an appt next week with them--so we shall see what happens/ Maybe Xmas will come early for me--:)
If anyone has any ideas about how to reduce the arousals--I am all ears. thanks!!

Re: Results of my Titration Night
Hi robysue-----they have on the report that most of them were spontaneous arousals. I don't have RLS or any limb movements, to any degree. Just shuffling from left side to right side. I do have hip pain--due to a syndrome that is VERY annoying called Pirifomis Syndrome. Extreme pain in the hip muscles sort of like Bursitis--travels down the gluts and down the back of my leg on the left side. I think alot of my arousals might be due to pain in that area. I have been to the pain clinic and have gotten some shots in the muscle. (ouch).
I also have HYPO--Thyroidism---but it is controlled with medication that I take daily.
