Question About Deleted Posts?

I've been participating in an ongoing 2 page thread trying to help a newbie who's struggling to adjust. As far as I can tell there has been nothing "funny" going on. This morning I had a reply notice in my email but when I clicked on it I was told "the page had been deleted or does not exist". Does anyone know why this would happen? Is it by the poster or Admin.?

What you describe could happen if someone spammed the thread, and someone elser reported the spam.

An alternative is a person who is aiming to disinform stir the pot, and sow confusion and distrust. He posts, you get a messages, and a few minutes after posting, he deletes his own posts -- and complains some else did the deleting. We've had some of that recently....

Or it could just be that someone posted something and then changed their mind and deleted it. I think you can delete your posts as long as you do it before someone else makes a reply.

Yep -- for which I got blamed. What I find really curious is how this person could think I have the power to delete posts, but leave the ones that aggravate me the most??? If I COULD delete posts (which I can't because I'm nothing but a member here), I sure as heck would have deleted a lot more of them!!

I think somebody may be messing around, trying to stir the pot, like ozij says....

Unless you are a moderator only the original poster can delete their post. If someone wants to save any of these posts for the record - then youst quote them and save it as your post. They can't delete that.

Just to give you an idea ... the board keeps track of how many posts were made .... despite the fact that the OP may have deleted them.


Xerort posted 16 times - 9 of those posts remain as of 1:30pm PDT.

and the all time winner ........ (!!)

SleepTechulous posted 66 times - and none of those remain as of 1:30pm PDT.

Frankly I consider this to be the Internet equivalent of a "drive-by" shooter. The post-delete things was first done by Calist. While these people may or may not be Calist (I personally think that Xerort is not, and ST is) - they could be "associates". The all post in the evenings (generally) - I think Calist was in Mountain Time. This, of course, is when they work - which makes me believe that they are posting these things and showing it to their friends, etc.

I am not going to apologize for my rant against ST last night - I meant every word of it. I have no problems with any professional posting here if ...

1.) They post as patients - not "experts".
2.) They share, not preach.
3.) They understand that this is a place where peers (hose people) help each other.
4.) They don't jump in and point to where they believe someone has made an incorrect statement and totally smash that person in the process.

Personally I couldn't give a damn (like most people here) whether changing your CPAP pressure is illegal - though I do find it intriguing that it is illegal to sleep naked in Minnesota. Even in the summer?

It is possable the poster might have been banned, or some one who posted on the thread. I'm a mod on a forum and I have banned several people for spamming the forum and I clicked on the the thread and it also said topic does not exhist. So I think some one or the poster was banned. Huggies, Fay

Based on what I've seen since I've been here, this forum is so lightly moderated and banning is a rarity. Even when somebody is being obviously abusive, they still usually aren't banned.

My guess is this is the work of those that want to insert mistrust into this forum by claiming that their posts are being deleted, when they are doing it themselves.

I watched one of them do it continuously one morning. I sat here and as soon as a post was made, I got in and quoted it so the evidence couldn't be deleted. Within a minute, the original post was gone. This happened several times -- it was so obvious that it was being done to breed deceit and mistrust here.

Didn't work though -- but it appears that others may have joined the bandwagon trying to discredit this forum.

I agree with your points 2 and 3, and point 4 is just plain good etiquette that all should follow. I have a problem with your point no. 1. I have no problem with sleep professionals (of whatever flavour) identifying and posting as such, so long as they keep to the other three principles that you've listed. In fact, I'd like them to identify themselves as such so that we can better understand what they are bringing to the table; for the same reason, it also would be good if they could also indicate whether they too have been diagnosed with SA.

True as a general rule, but not so on this forum.

1. When you've been here long enough, and posted enough posts, you find a "report spam" at the right upper corner of each and every post in the forum. That means you are now trusted to delete spam posts in the interest of protecting this forum from spammers.
2. This "time on the forum AND number of posts" limitation was actually initiated because of Polysomnoman the trolling sleep tech, who was removing posts left right and center, and changing identities in order to do that.
3. This policy has been in effect since April 2009, it was suggested by a member, and voted on by the community.

The individual deleting peoples posts was identified and punished. Contrary to popular belief a log is kept of all post deletions and if you delete a person's post with out a good reason you will be penalized.
