College Girl,
Thanks for the instructions. I have the Version 1.4i Rev.4 so I think I won't need to upgrade anything will I?
Tried to download MyEncore but when I try to run it I get a message saying it cannot be opened. Not very good at this I'm afraid.
OK just reread your "Make sure you have downloaded data before you try to start the MyEncore program." Duh!! Hope that's why it won't open.
What is supposed to happen when you plug in the card reader--if everything is installed right? I followed..uh, tried to follow..another guest's instructions but when I plugged it in, nothing really happened. Not sure what is supposed to happen. He is even going to send me the paper with some instructions he received.
I really appreciate all the patience and help!!

Guest,
Thanks for the link but I had read the article before doing any installing. Notice
"There are two phases to the installation: 1) the installation of Encore Pro and the Microsoft SQL server, and 2) installation of the USB drivers for the Infineer SmartCard reader/writer from the second CD.
Each CD started automatically on loading, and presented a set of options from the initial splash screen."
Since I didn't get but 1 CD I thought I
had to use the CD that came with the 2factors reader. So now I'm trying to do what all these nice people are so patiently attempting to help me do.

No, actually, Kurrykid, this setting can be done at any time. You can alternate from "erase data after download" to "do not erase data" any old time you feel like it by doing this:
Open your C: drive
Open the "programs" folder
Open the "respironics" folder
Open the "Encore Pro" folder
open the "Utilities" folder.
Once you get there, you can double click whichever option you want - "Erase data after download" or "Don't erase data after download." Double-click the one you choose and it changes the setting. That's all there is to it!

you can change back and forth but I don't think you can take data that has been erased off the smart card and put it back on

Well, I have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled (with the disc from encorepro) but it still doesn't recognize the card reader. WAAAY past my bedtime so will have to try again tomorrow.
Thanks sooo much for the help.
Sleep well all you night owls. Got to go hitch up to the hose.
Please check back tomorrow.

Esther,
CollegeGirl gave you the wrong link to 2factors.
The following one has the "installers" that can be downloaded for Encore Pro:

The continuing saga.
1)Plugged the card reader into the top usb port (don't know if it matters)
2)Little message "Found New Hardware" appeared (good sign I thought)
3)Insert disc that came with hardware (instead of inserting the disc from 2factors which I had tried yesterday and Windows warned about not being digitally signed, I inserted the encorepro CD). Got the same warning "The software your are sinstalling for the hardware Mako DT 3500 SamrtCard Reader has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. Continuing your installation of this Software may impair or destablilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the futre. Contact your hardware vendor."
4)Stopped the installation to check with you guys
Question--did you get the same warning message but continue anyway?

Just looked under All Programs and I do have Mako Technologies showing just above Respironics--they are both in a yellow block. Don't know what that means. Everything else has a white background.

Appreciate the input, but I think I'll wait until someone who is a registered user with posts showing gives some advice.
Thanks,

Sorry, didn't mean to offend in any way, it just isn't showing up that you are.

Esther,
That's cause I'm on the "company" PC.
Go ahead and try it. When you get those messages, go ahead and click through them. That was actually a good sign that it's installing the drivers for the card reader.
Don't worry.....there isn't anything in this installation that can't be un-done and re-installed.
