Alternatives to Encore Viewer?

I have a Respironics REMStar machine and I'm wanting to check out the data being logged to the SD card. I found the Encore software online, but was surprised at the cost. I do computer work for a living so I'm not afraid of hacking around a bit. Is this data readable right from the card, as is? I'm hoping it's just a simple text log of events, but it could be encrypted or just plain difficult to read.

I'd play around with it but I'm at work now and not near my machine.

Additionally, if another software package is available that's cheaper and/or better, I'd be curious to hear about it.

Sorry but there isn't another software package for Phillips Respironics (or just Respironics) machines.

From previous checking (other IT folks)... the data's in a priopriatry (sp?) format (doesn't even match the format of the other companies... they each appear to have their own).
