Having to use two different masks

Post by ssjn98@yahoo.com » Mon Oct 25, 2010 12:34 pm

I am a "newbie" to the CPAP way of life. When I had my CPAP titration study done in early Oct, I was fitted with the comfort gel full face mask. Unfortunately, I have a small nose. (Mind you, this is the ONLY thing small on my body) After about one week, my nose had many sore bumps on it. I was then fitted by my DME supplier with the Liberty mask. I have to say that there are things that I like about both masks. I tend to use the comfort gel full face more often because I find that the Liberty nasal pillows are really annoying and it leaks all the time! I called my DME supplier, again, and purchased a gel type thing for my nose to protect it. Now, my mask will not seal correctly, so I quit using the nose thing. I've been told that I tighten the straps too tight, but if I don't I get leaks. I am not having any apneas or hyponeas because I am either adjusting it to fix the leak or finding a new spot on my nose that isn't sore. I would appreciate any advice on either mask. Thanks

The Liberty is an inferior copy of the Hybrid mask. Here are some tips on fitting, adjusting and using the Hybrid mask - wiki/index.php/Hybrid_Mask_Modifications.

Some of the tips may apply to the Liberty mask. Of particular importance is "the ladies' tights fix" for controlling and leakproofing the nasal pillows.

Save your face! Email or call Karen at http://padacheek.com/PAC_Maskliners.html and tell her which mask you have. She makes the most comfortable liners that fit between the mask and your face. The material helps seal up those tiny, annoying leaks and it keeps the silicone from blistering your face. I've been using them for a few weeks now and can finally move my head from side to side without leaking. I love them!

Ugh, I tried the Liberty, too, because I'm a mouth breather. It leaked like crazy and made me feel like an octopus was sucking on my face. I took it back to the DME and got the FP Forma ffm. It's much better but also leaves a sore spot on the bridge of my nose. I just put a piece of soft tape there to help with it.

Have you tried the Swift FX or the Swift LT nasal pillow masks? They are much more comfortable than the Liberty.

But they don't cover your mouth!

Thanks to everyone who responded. I am willing to try any thing. My nose right now is so sore from the comfort gel ff mask, but the pillows seem big and dry out my nose and mouth more than my full face mask.

Thanks.
