Hello
Last night was the first night i could not use my cpap in about 3 months.
I am using a ff mask ( quattro). But I have such a bump now on my nose from the mask and now it is too sore. I have loosen the mask to the point where
I have leaks. I have tried using two bandaids to using a soft pad girls use to take makeup off. My pressure is 19 so the mask needs to be tight.
I have been good with this mask for a long time. I even went back to my uff mask to see if there was a difference but no luck. I go back to the dme in a week so I will see what she suggests to do.
Oh well my nose needed a break. I guess I am just letting off steam
Thanks
Sudsy

Re: Last night could not use my cpap
oh gosh sudsy, sorry you missed a night.....
have you tried mole skin on your nose?
gee nineteen is kinds high, you are doing really well, save for that owie on your nose. bet it hurts..
bandaids dont have much cushion for that kind of predicament..
maybe a little piece of soft t shirt material?
hope it gets better soon!

Re: Last night could not use my cpap
Sounds like you might be a candidate for a hybrid mask. I assume you use the FFM due to mouth breathing, but if not..... you might like a nasal pillow mask. The hybrid is both a pillow and over the mouth mask so your nose would be uncovered. Good luck when you go to try on new ones.... hope you can find a good alternative.
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

Thanks for the replys
I am going to try mole skin and see how it goes. Yes I am a big mouth breather.
Yes my pressure is very high. I am 50 5 7 193lbs. My ahi is still a little high at 8 The dme said anything below 10 is good. I don't think shes knows what shes talking about sometimes. I have RA and on some heavy drugs which might be why my pressure is hign.

Re: Last night could not use my cpap
if you come up with those numbers in a sleep study, you would be considered to have untreated mild apnea..The dme said anything below 10 is good.
so no, thats not so great..

Re: Last night could not use my cpap
Johnson and Johnson sells "Advanced Healing Blister Finger and Toe" bandaids that have a little gel filling where the guaze part is. They make very good low profile nose cushions, but they are a bit pricey.
You might also check with our member Karen at Padacheek. She has some cushiony mask liners and anti leak straps that might reduce the pressure on your poor schnozz!

Anything below 5 is typically considered to be successful treatment. I find that I need to be around 2 to avoid feeling like a zombie. ResMed machines such as the S8 tend to score a little higher, so an 8 on a ResMed might be tolerable if you are getting mostly hypos. But on a Respironics machine, you want to shoot for a lower AHI score.
A pressure of 19 is a tough situation to deal with, but many folks do successfully get dialed in to a routine that works over the long haul. A key thing is finding the right mask. I think you should give the hybrid a try (as another poster suggested). I like the comfort of a nasal pillow mask, but that means finding a way to keep my mouth closed. Tape is the only thing that seems to work for me.
A big thing to to have the right machine. A pressure of 19 is generally considered to be BiPAP territory rather than something where a CPAP or APAP would be used. A BiPAP can be much more comfortble, and can allow you to run at a much lower exhale pressure. For example, I am 20 on inhale, but only 13 on exhale. I don't even notice the pressure anymore, and I cannot tell my machine is on most of the time. I'd suggest talking to your medical people about getting a prescription for a BiPAP.

Re: Last night could not use my cpap
hello
I think I will try the Advanced Healing Blister Finger and Toe" bandaids that Janknitz suggested. I put in a order for padacheek this morning.
I really like the Quatto alot. If it does not work out then I will try try the hybrid next.
At my sleep study my numbers were very very hign and were considered severe.
Thanks for all the help
