I just started using the exact same CPAP set up you have Thursday November 17, 2005. I haven't had any touble sleeping all night with the CPAP even the very first night. When I was younger, I use to SCUBA dive so the noise just reminded me of diving. Maybe that had something to do with it.

Asked my wife if she slept O.K the first night I used the CPAP. She said she slept withhout any problem. It was just was a new sound to get use to but much better than the "choking" sound I would make before when sleeping.

I use the the ramp feature with the pressure set to increase from 4 to 7 cm. and the heater setting is on 2. Second night woke up about 5:00 am feeling really rested and full of energy ........Ouch!!!! Oh HI Sweety.

Any way just wanted to let you know not all CPAP experiences start out difficulty. Thanks

Good hearing from all of you. I think I'm fully 'compliant' now that I've been on the hose for two weeks. Boy, after that first night, I thought i'd never adapt. I think I actually look forward to it, now.

I started a new topic today about my first trip back to the sleep doc following two sleep labs, the second the tritation (sp) one with CPAP, and my two weeks on the CPAP system at home. I was puzzled that the doc didn't know that the pro 2 unit that I have actually gave readouts of AHI's, etc. He gave me a report that included all of that, but he told me earlier that the machine read-out wouldn't give me that information? Anyway, I guess I'm one of the CPAPers, now. I never thought...

I decided to revive this thread from over 2 years ago. I started it after my first night on CPAP using the original Swift mask. It was a miserable night! The sound of the machine and my inhalations/exhalations seemed very loud to me.

I never really acclimated to the original Swift and began the quest for a better mask: First continuing with the nasal pillows: 2) Breeze, 3) Aura; then to the nasal masks: 4) Comfort Gel, 5) Activa; then to the full-face: 6) Ultra Mirage, 7) Comfort Full Two, 8) Quattro, 9) F&P 431, 10) Hybrid; and, now, back to the Swift (II). FULL CIRCLE, well sort of: it is the Swift II.

My impressions along the way: I liked nasal masks better than nasal pillows. They were quieter and I'm not talking just about the exhaust noise but the whole perception of mask noise including the breathing sound that we hear that some call 'head noise'. The Activa is a good sealing quiet mask, so much so that I can hear the machine blower revving up when I inhale, which I don't like. It is my favorite nasal mask.

I haven't found a full-face mask that satisfies me, yet. The Ultra Mirage is a comfortable, quiet mask, but leaks around my jaw. The Comfort Full was too big and the Quatro too small, so not a fair trial for them. The 431 has to be worn too tightly and my Snore Index goes from 2 to 122. Further my AHI is 3 points higher. I have no idea why. The Hybrid just doesn't suit me—the nasal pillows in conjunction with a mouth cup. Not comfortable and it leaks. So, I haven't found a full-face, yet. I'm going to try a smaller Comfort Full 2, next. Any suggestions?

Okay, now back to the Swift II. I knew the first night that it was quieter than the original. ( I hope it's not because I'm going deaf?) After 3 nights, I am very pleased with it. The noise level is higher than the Activa, but not disagreeable because it actually masks the machine blower noise. And, it is just Swift-light and comfortable—all the things you like about a nasal interface: good seal, no pressure points on the face or head, light as a feather.

I was again impressed by you hose heads when I re-read all of the posts in this old thread. You were right-on with most all of your opinions.

I haven't been keeping up with the forum faithfully. Seems that once I found a mask, the Activa, and was satisfied that my treatment was going as it was supposed to, as confirmed by 'My Encore' reports, I drifted away from the forum. I once speculated in a post (one of my nearly 300) that the majority of the people on the forum were still having trouble acclimating to CPAP and that was why they were participating. IOW, they were seeking help. There are some who are just into CPAP and are willing to spend time helping others when they, themselves, don't need it. I thank you, again, for being there when I needed you.

Anyway, I just wanted to give you an update and especially to let you know, however ironic, that I was a Swift user again—full circle. I can't believe it. But, next month/week, who knows. There's always a better mask lurking in our futures.
