help with spouse

Post by littlereader » Sun Oct 03, 2010 6:12 pm

My spouse and I use to go to bed together and talk until I feel a sleep. Now with the mask I can not talk to her and she is finding it emotionally hard on her. She miss our time. there is no other time for us to talk though out the day with my long work hours and our 5 kids who need our time at night before bed. Any suggestion on how to bridge this gap?

My husband falls asleep faster than I do, so I hold the mask in my hand (so I won't forget to put it on) until conversation is done and he is starting to fall asleep. Then I put it on.

Do not put on your mask until it is time for you to go to sleep. Talk with her until you feel tired and then put it on.

Save time to talk before putting on the mask. I find the machine is a great reason/time to say "it's quiet time...go to sleep."

She can talk and you can listen. You can nod or shake your head. You can hold hands and still have your quiet time. Just don't get her tangled in your hose.

If you die from the lack of using your machine, she is probably going to miss your time together even more. It's really sad that spouses (significant others) don't really understand this condition and the importance of this therapy.
Hopefully you have a data-capable machine and are getting your therapy optimized. Far too many people don't have either one and suffer with poor results for various reasons.
Stick around here and read. Apply what you learn here to your own therapy. Far too many of the people who diagnose the conditions and dispense the equipment are borderline incompetent, if not actually so. It's very important for the actual users to become as knowledgeable as they can about their therapy.

That sounds kind of sweet to me.

Littlereader, you are such a sweetheart to be concerned about how your wife feels! I like the suggestions of having some quiet conversation and snuggle time before you mask up. Y'all will find a way to make this work, I'm sure.

My husband and I play a game of gin sometimes before we go to sleep, right there in bed.. just toss a book on the bed,
deal the cards, and play a game, and we get all of our talking done usually before we finish.. and its fun.. and we giggle like kids..

My mask is on my pillow, ready to put on when we finish..

Everyone sounds so nice to each other. I need to stay out of these sappy threads.

I go in and mask up my husband because he goes to bed before I do. I kiss him goodnight and then I have my own private time on the computer. Then I go to bed and put the mask back on Hubby and get yelled at and accused of trying to kill him. He is so funny. If I wanted to kill him I would just leave his mask off.

Last night we were watching TV before bedtime and this old lady had a stun gun. I told Hubby I was thinking about buying one of those. He said. What are you going to do with it, use it on my when I pull my mask off? I told him that was a good idea but I never thought of that. Well he kept in on all night last night.
