Air leaking out of face mask

Post by sdewster » Mon Aug 23, 2010 3:40 am

Hi all, I have been using my CPAP machine now for around 2 months. I use a full face mask. Now i seem to be getting air leaking out of the mask. I have tightened the mask to my head to prevent this so much that I get marks around my nose and forehead.

Does anyone know what I can do to prevent this??

Thanks

Hi, I am starting 2nd week and like you use a full mask. I had no leaks at all for the first 6 days and on the 7th fought leaks all night. I think it may have something to do with cleaning, light soap and water every day... I was not doing that now I am. Let's see how that works. Also maybe tweak the straps every day or 2, I think they may stretch. As an FYI I tried a nasal mask last night for the 1st time with real good. Results! I can't remember adjusting it once all night! Keep asking question the folks here are great and far smarter then I!

Thanks for your reply, I should have said in my original post that I actually changed my mask for the spare new one that I have because I thought that it might have been the seal or something. So I cant see it being anything to do with the cleaning of the mask.

I am thinking that it maybe to do with the position I sleep in, if I slip down on my pillows through the night. I am just trying to see what has changed as I did not get this issue before.

Cheers

I am interested in any replies to this issue. I start the night with evenything adjusted, secure, leak-free, etc. But during the night it somehow gets loose and I wake up from all the noise the leaks make. Then I tighten and tighten until I wake up with bruises. I have taken to putting a band-aid on the bridge of my nose before I put on my full face mask. My pressure is 18, so when the leak occurs, it really goes crazy! My doctor is sending me a bipap and a new mask; the mask is a "freedom," I think he said. I am having such a tough time, I am really thinking of just sleeping with lots of pillows to prop me up and something to keep me from rolling onto my back. Has anyone else done this? Results?

Thanks for your post Paula,

I totally understand where your coming from here regarding waking up and tightening the face mask so much that in the morning you wake up with marks on your face. I have got really bad sores on the bridge of my nose from how tight the mask is. Saying this, I did experiment last night by sleeping on my side and found that had much fewer leaks through the night.

Cheers, and all the best for anyone who has this problem. Please let us know if there are any other solutions.

Stu xx
